Food should not be a tool to control human behaviour.
House Budget members, I hope you reconsider and fully fund the @FL_Corrections budget request on food. Not only does this meal look unappealing, it tastes that way too. @SusanLValdesFL @SamGarrison155
Poor nutrition is not part of the punishment. Thank you!!

Before @FLVS took over, @fladjj education was incredibly inconsistent. My tours of DJJ facilities revealed that county-led education programs were often an afterthought—lacking clear success metrics and follow-up as kids moved through the system. It’s a challenge, but we’re building a best-practices system to support some of the most at-risk students. Change takes time, but progress is underway.

FLORIDA needs A SECOND LOOK BILL! Releasing those in prison for decades who are NOT a threat to public safety can make contributions to their communities!
Restore Florida families. There are too many in Florida Prisons who have served an inordinate amount of time!
“Lawmakers are also planning on assigning some money to address the state’s worsening prison crisis, although @GovRonDeSantis didn’t ask for nearly as much.
An auditing firm (@KPMG ) hired by the state determined legislators needed to devote anywhere from $6 billion to $12 billion over the next 20 years building new prisons and hospital beds amid a growing number of inmates and crumbling prison campuses. In 2022, DeSantis vetoed $840 million for a new prison and a new prison hospital, and he asked for no money this year to build new prisons.
This year, lawmakers are assigning a recurring $100 million for new housing units and major repairs and renovation. This year’s budget also includes an extra $21 million for Florida National Guards members to continue working in prisons, which are short-staffed.”

FACT: There are more people in slavery today than there was when it was legal. Just let that hit you. Not one person can solve this problem, it’s going to take a helluva lot of us to make some noise 🦋 youtube.com/live/NMSXHxTSuAM…

First sentence of my Harvard essay:
"In 2000, after serving 6 years in prison, I embarked on this journey. Over the years, the once-promising criminal justice reform movement in the US has regrettably transformed into a mere spectacle, a profit-driven enterprise that thrives on mediocrity while offering little respite to those ensnared in the oppressive grip of the criminal justice system."

Aramark will be “…providing meals at a cost of $2.32 per inmate each day.”
That was in 2002, The price of $2.32 per day was for EVERY incarcerated, whether they ate or not.
It’s 21 years later and they are being paid for incarcerated that EAT at the rate of $3.049 per day.
Inflation rate, previously documented shortages, bad food, being fired, why would we ever dream of hiring them back? @jenn_bradley @SenJonMartin
In addition to this the Canteen prices for 65% of the items increased on average 40% only 3 months after a 10% increase.
How is that FMV @RepMikeCaruso? The independent 3rd party that came up with these prices & the calculation have not been made public. Similar to the delay in the contract being public for a 1 1/2 months.
Canteen is a necessity when you have @Aramark.
What happens to all the people who don’t have “approved visitors” who can send them money?
What about the families that already lost one breadwinner? The other has to raise the children, send money, spend 14 cents a minute to call and travel 6 hours to take the children to see Dad.
Who is doing the time? The Florida families that we are allowing @FL_Corrections to bankrupt over a crime they didn’t commit.
This is from a 2002 @TB_Times article about @Aramark before they were FIRED by the @FL_Corrections
Why would you hire them back? The Officer’s Clubs?
