Traffic is slowing down across I-40 west of Flagstaff and I-17 north of Camp Verde. A strong band of showers is right over the Bellemont area, and recently passed through Williams. If you must drive, SLOW DOWN! Also leave plenty of space between yourself and surrounding vehicles.

Reminder: if you see smoke around Elden today, it's the prescribed pile burns happening. Smoke will be very visible around town, as these piles are large and atop the mountain.
Prescribed burns continue today with more pile burns! Look for electronic signs up on HWY 89 N, one mile north and one mile south of Elden Springs Rd. #RxFIRE
Fire crews plan to start ignitions around noon and anticipate being on scene the remainder of the day to monitor piles for maximum consumption. Smoke impacts are expected to be light on HWY 89 N as residual smoke settles in. Smoke and flames will be visible from HWY 89 N and Elden Springs Road during ignition and consumption.
Fire managers on the Coconino National Forest plan to take advantage of winter weather conditions by conducting pile burns on both the Flagstaff Ranger District (FRD) and Mogollon Rim Ranger District (MRRD) this week.

The closure is due winter weather and weather-related incidents.

As you may have heard, the @CoconinoNF and @KaibabNF - Williams Ranger District will begin Stage 1 Fire Restrictions tomorrow at 8:00am. @CoconinoCounty and municipalities like @CityofFlagstaff will do the same.
While campfires in undeveloped areas of the National Forests are prohibited, campers are still able to ignite a wood campfire in designated, developed recreation areas that are clear of overhead brush and debris on the ground. Wood fires, charcoal barbecues, any combustible device without an off switch are prohibited, even on private property.
