I've been publicly highly critical of both SfL & the Canary in my time but this is an utterly vile, despicable post & incredibly revealing about the personalities involved in the right of the Labour party.
The Canary & Stats for Lefties dead🪦. What a great day for the non-dictator loving left!

‘We came, we saw, he died.’ Hillary Clinton’s reaction to and celebration of the murder of Muammar Gaddafi, which happened on this day in 2011. Under Muammar Gaddafi, Libya had been the richest country in Africa. After the US’ and NATO’s bombing, it remains a failed state with open-air slave markets 15 years later.
Putin🇷🇺: ‘Who gave NATO the right to kill Gaddafi?’ Muammar Gaddafi was killed on this day in 2011 following a NATO regime change war to remove him from power.

This latest article from Thomas Pikkety, the renowned French economist and leading authority on wealth inequality, should be essential reading here in the UK. His argument is simple. France has never been wealthier. Yet education funding per student has fallen by 20% since 2017, public services are struggling, and inequality is deeply embedded in the system. Sound familiar? The problem isn't that our countries have run out of wealth. It's how that wealth is distributed, who controls it, and the political choices made to protect it. For decades, we've been told that austerity, declining public services and falling living standards are unavoidable consequences of economic crises, yet those same decades have seen extraordinary concentrations of private wealth. Socialise the costs. Privatise the gains. This is the reality we all need to wake up to. These aren't inevitable economic outcomes. They're the consequences of political choices, made over time, that have prioritised the accumulation of private wealth over the needs of society. And as public anger grows, we're seeing a deeply concerning response: The rise of the far right, directing that anger towards immigrants, disabled people, those claiming welfare and other vulnerable groups, rather than towards the economic structures responsible for the inequalities people are rightly furious about. As @NaomiAKlein describes fascism, "it's capitalism's most ferocious threat response. A way of directing public anger downwards at the vulnerable, rather than upwards at the system." Fascism doesn't challenge the status quo. It protects it by giving people someone else to blame. The fundamental question isn't whether our societies can afford something better. It's why, when we've never been wealthier, we're repeatedly told we must accept less. We need to fundamentally rethink an economy built around extraction, exploitation and wealth concentration, and start building one that delivers equitable, sustainable prosperity for everyone. And with the UK Budget next week, this should be a serious warning to @UKLabour. If the Budget fails to acknowledge this fundamental reality, and instead offers another round of "difficult decisions" that protect concentrated wealth while asking ordinary people to shoulder the burden, then @andyburnham really hasn't understood what's happening across Europe. What's unfolding in France isn't an isolated protest. It's a warning of what happens when people stop accepting that a society growing ever wealthier somehow can't afford to give them a better life. This isn't something politicians can keep kicking down the road. The warning signs are everywhere. The question now is whether those in power are prepared to confront the causes, or continue defending the very system that's driving the anger. @ZackPolanski @jeremycorbyn @KemiBadenoch @Nigel_Farage

Is it any surprise that political violence is on the rise in the United States🇺🇸? The richest 1% in the United States own 32.5% of all household wealth. The top 1% owns more than the bottom 90% of Americans combined. The bottom 50% (67.6 million households) own only 2.3% of the US’ wealth. The top 0.1% owns 6.5% owns more than the poorest 50%. The top 1% own over half the stock market. The bottom 50% own less than 1% of corporate stocks and mutual fund shares. The richest 10% own roughly two-thirds of US wealth. The entire US economy has been rigged to produce monstrous concentrations of wealth into the hands of a tiny oligarchy, while the rest own nothing, and are wage+debt slaves. Michael Parenti (1933-2026): ‘The free market mythology argues that the most ruthless, selfish, opportunistic, greedy, calculating plunderers, applying the most heartless measures in cold blooded pursuit of corporate interests and wealth accumulation, will produce the best results for all of us through something called the invisible hand.”
Prof. Robert Pape: ‘The profile of those who commit POLITICAL VIOLENCE in the USA🇺🇸 is unlike anything I’ve seen in 30 years.’ ‘We studied all the perpetrators in 2020 who were doing political violence, and that of course included 2021 January 6th, and we studied 1575, and I have never seen profile like that before in my 30 years of studying political violence. Only one in 10 of the 1575 who stormed the Capitol were members of militia groups, and that includes only one in 10 of the 600 who beat up cops were militia group members. 45 percent were doctors, lawyers, accountants, IT specialists, State Department employees, business owners. This is a different category than you were used to seeing.’ —@ProfessorPape, Author of Our Own Worst Enemies: America in the Age of Violent Populism Watch the full interview in the quoted post 👇

It was a remarkably stupid idea to push Russia into war. Russia was minding its own business and delivering cheap energy. Its only real demand was that NATO must not expand into its direct sphere. The consequences of ignoring that were entirely predictable. The fact that Russia turned out to be very capable was a surprise. Still, it was a stupid idea to FAFO if NATO could cross that final red line.

TWO TRUTH TELLERS, ONE FARCE You tell one honest thing at work and regret it. In 2003, civil servants Katharine Gun and David Kelly did exactly that about Iraq, and the government treated both as the problem. Katharine Gun was a translator at @GCHQ, Britain's electronic spy agency. David Kelly was a weapons expert at the Ministry of Defence @DefenceHQ. In January 2003, Katharine Gun read an email from America's NSA asking GCHQ to spy on six UN Security Council countries and lean on their votes for the Iraq invasion. She leaked it to @ObserverUK, which printed it in March. David Kelly spoke to @BBC reporter Andrew Gilligan about the government's Iraq weapons report. Katharine Gun was charged under the Official Secrets Act and faced two years in prison. The ministry confirmed David Kelly's name to journalists who guessed it, after a meeting chaired by Tony Blair. 3 days after MPs questioned him, David Kelly was found dead. Lord Brian Hutton, a judge the government appointed, largely cleared the government on 28 January 2004. Shocking scenes. @BBC chairman and director general resigned, and David Kelly's inquest was suspended and never resumed. 4 weeks later, on 25 February 2004, the prosecution offered no evidence against Katharine Gun and gave no reason. @guardian reported in 2019 that the case was dropped because evidence would allegedly emerge that government lawyers thought the war illegal. The Chilcot inquiry ran to 2.6 million words and never mentioned Katharine Gun. Proper thorough, that. Sources @ObserverUK @thetimes @BBCNews

President Trump is not a pedophile. I can’t believe I have to say these words. Whoever started this rumor is a vile, disgusting human being.

Pat Buchanan, 1999: “By moving NATO onto Russia’s front porch, we have scheduled a twenty-first century confrontation. … America will face a hellish dilemma: risk confrontation with a nuclear-armed Russia determined to recreate its old sphere of influence, or renege on solemn commitments and see NATO collapse.” Therefore, he said, “Offering NATO memberships to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and, as some urge, Ukraine is rashness bordering on madness.” Referring to maps the Clinton team must have ignored, Buchanan warned, “This would put the Russian base at Kaliningrad behind NATO lines and bring into a U.S.-led alliance three nations with huge Russian minorities.” Foreseeing future conflict, he observed that “Latvia is almost half Russian; eastern Ukraine, almost entirely Russian. America could neither defend nor liberate these nations without the risk of nuclear war.” Pat Buchanan, A Republic, Not an Empire: Reclaiming America’s Destiny (New York: Regnery, 1999), 17–18, 22.

We are constantly told that the war in Ukraine was "unprovoked" But then I see this interview with Victoria Nuland from April 2014 and realize that I had simply been fed a carefully fabricated narrative.....

She’s free yes and found not guilty of posting a terrorist tweet, whereas others guilty of holding terrorist banners? So where do I sign the letter calling for such absurdity to halt and for Palestine Action to be unbanned under the Terrorism act?
419 authors, illustrators, poets and editors have signed a letter backing Sally Rooney and Faber, and calling on the government to lift the Palestine Action ban. Same week, Sarah Helm, wife of the National Security Adviser, posted: "God help us authors who support Palestine and Palestine Action." The Met said it was assessing the post. The Guardian and BBC now report no action will be taken. Amnesty counts more than 3,500 arrests in Britain for alleged support of the group, many for holding placards. Writers stand with Rooney. The NSA's wife walks free.

Note to UK politicians: Supporting the Palestinian right to return, the need for justice and the need for equality is not racism; it is opposition to racism. Zionism denies Palestinians the right to return. It's racist.

When Keir co-founded the Independent Labour Party in 1893, he embedded a social safety net into its platform. "State provision for the sick, disabled, aged, widows and orphans." Fuck you, Mac. You're a Tory with Labour skin. Stop lying to yourself and us and admit it.

A brief review of recent technical “errors” at Meta: 1. Restricting the Facebook pages of Brazilian president Lula who is in a runoff election against a Trump-favored candidate 2. Shutting down the pages of Albanians protesting Jared Kushner’s plans to build a luxury resort in the country 3. Rejecting ads for a documentary critical of Elon Musk 4. Shutting down the No Kings instagram page in the middle of a major anti-Trump protest

Naza — this fucked me up on a deep level. No film has left me with a feeling of such profound despair after the credits rolled.. the way it’s filmed, on the rooftops of Tel Aviv in the dead of night, juxtaposed against the life that just goes on, as the analysts and technicians give their accounts creates such a bone-chilling atmosphere. Surely one of the greatest pieces of investigative journalism ever documented. No wonder Israel doesn’t want anyone to see this. Or doesn’t want any independent investigations into Gaza. If you watch Naza and still think Israel hasn’t committed genocide, you’re just lying to yourself.

Zionism is not 'core to Jewish identity'. Zionism is core to Zionist identity. Most Zionists are non-Jews. Many Jews are non- or anti-Zionists. Conflating Zionism with Jewry is antisemitic. #ItWasAScam #ItsAScam
