Thank you to Dr Saket Priyadarshi from NHS GGC's Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services for his informative and thought-provoking presentation at last week's West Scotland Faculty Fulton Lecture.
If interested in the recording, please contact scotlandevents@rcgp.org.uk
Great to see this positive work on workforce retention and beyond delighted to have our research on IMG visa issues cited!

Today, we launched our retention report: 'Looking after the GPs of today to safeguard the workforce of tomorrow'.

Our GPs are being stretched to the limit. Demand for GP services is increasing, but since 2015, NHSE has 1,557 fewer full-time fully qualified GPs.
It's a vicious cycle: unsustainable workloads force GPs to leave the profession, piling on the pressure on remaining staff. This strain accelerates burnout, plunging the workforce into an even deeper crisis.

Very proud of our fantastic colleague Andrea! 🙌
‘I grew up wanting to find out about the world – I had that curiosity and a detective-work side to my character. And I’ve always had a strong sense of social justice. Those two things coalesce in medicine for me.’

From Nov, direct referral from 111 to breast clinics will be trialled for women experiencing a lump; Wes Streeting introduces this as an example of removing appointments from general practice where appropriate/warranted.
Delighted to present our poster at #RCGPAC24
"Improving visa conditions to manage International Medical Graduate retention in the UK"
@rcgp please keep lobbying government, we shouldn't be losing new GPs who want to live and work here!

While I'm not leaving the profession - I am emigrating as I feel the work life balance is not sustainable currently in the UK.
