What does it mean for corrugated cardboard to be recycled for real? To find out, our sector welcomed circular economist Harald Friedl behind the scenes to see how our circular performance works in practice. From recycling to packaging production, Harald saw first-hand how corrugated fibres stay in use and met the people behind the process. We were pleased to open our doors to show how cardboard supports the circular economy with a recycling rate that exceeds 90%. Harald went on a journey. What did he discover? See for yourself! 👇 fefco.org/eu-policy/corrugat…

Effective EPR rules need to achieve two things: - Make responsibilities traceable and enforceable - Keep cross-border compliance proportionate, predictable and workable That balance is at the heart of today’s European Parliament discussions on a proposed suspension of the #PPWR’s EPR authorised-representative requirement for cross-border trade. The corrugated cardboard packaging value chain supplies businesses whose products travel across Europe. When those businesses sell packaged products in Member States where they are not established, they may need to appoint an authorised representative to meet their EPR obligations. Combined with different national registration and reporting processes, this can add complexity across the value chain. The challenge is to simplify unnecessary burdens without undermining producer accountability or the effective financing of packaging-waste management. Effective implementation means making EPR work in practice for businesses, policymakers and the environment. #EPR #SMEs #SingleMarket #CircularByNature

It takes a lot of care to put food on the table. From the hands that grow it to the hands that cook it, the journey must be smooth. When food is damaged or lost along the way, all those efforts risk going to waste. That's why choosing effective food packaging is key: it protects the resources and care that went into producing it. Corrugated packaging helps reduce damage in transit, supports ventilation where needed and adapts to different products and supply-chain needs. This #WorldFoodDay, let’s remember what’s at stake when we protect food on its journey. Discover how corrugated packaging can make a difference👇. fefco.org/circular-by-nature…

Cross-border trade needs EPR rules that work in practice. The debate in Germany over the PPWR’s authorised-representative requirement highlights a wider challenge: ⏩ How can businesses selling across borders meet their EPR obligations without facing disproportionate administrative complexity? For SMEs in particular, compliance can absorb time and resources that would otherwise go into running, growing and innovating their business. At the same time, EPR systems need to be effective and enforceable. The policy challenge is to strike the right balance: ensuring requirements are effective in practice, while remaining proportionate and consistent across the Single Market. Successful implementation must deliver environmental benefits while also being workable for the businesses responsible for putting it into practice. #PPWR #EPR #SingleMarket #SMEs #CircularByNature logistik-heute.de/news/ppwr-…

What does #PPWR implementation mean in practice for transport packaging? On October 8th, FEFCO’s Senior Policy Advisor Marta Roche will speak at Sustainable Packaging Europe about how our sector is navigating the new regulatory landscape. Her session will explore: ▶️ Key PPWR requirements and potential compliance challenges ▶️ How industry expertise can help identify practical implementation challenges ▶️ How we are supporting members with regulatory analysis, knowledge sharing and practical guidance As the PPWR moves from legislation to implementation, understanding how the requirements work across complex logistics and e-commerce supply chains will be increasingly important. With the #PPWR now applicable, understanding how its requirements translate into practice is increasingly important for the cardboard industry. ▶️ Clear, practical guidance helps members understand and navigate the new requirements. On September 24th, FEFCO’s Juliette Guérin joined a panel discussion on PPWR compliance at the launch of Hinojosa Folding Packaging France in Châteauroux. Exchanges like these help FEFCO turn complex regulatory requirements into practical support for the sector. #CircularByNature hinojosaevents.com/

Tomorrow, 1 October at 9:00 AM, the European Paper Recycling Council will release its annual monitoring report, offering a fresh look at how paper recycling is performing across Europe. Why does this matter? Because recycling rates and the performance of #EPR schemes help show how well Europe’s circular economy is working in practice, providing important context for discussions around the #CircularEconomyAct. The report launch will bring together experts from across the paper and packaging value chain, including FEFCO’s Technical & Sustainability Director Juliette Guérin, alongside Maria Georgiadou (Recycling Manager, Cepi), Andrew Gelston (Senior Communications Manager, FBCA – Food and Beverage Carton Alliance), and Ulrich Leberle (Raw Materials Director, Cepi). 📅 1 October ⏰ 9:00 AM If you’re following developments in paper recycling, packaging, EPR or the broader #CircularEconomy, this is a useful opportunity to hear directly from the people working on these issues. Before a product reaches you, it may travel hundreds of kilometres by truck. 🚚 Every bit of space matters. The more efficiently products can be packed and loaded, the more goods can move in each journey. Corrugated cardboard can help optimise how products are packed and transported: ✅ Up to 30% more packaged goods per pallet ✅ Packaging designed to fit different products and formats ✅ Strength and load stability for transport Better use of space means more products moved per journey, and fewer journeys needed. See how packaging design can make transport more efficient. #CircularByNature fefco.org/benefits-corrugate…
