Give our latest paper a read! 🤓
Better tools = better science = better medicines. 🧬✨ 💡THE IDEA: create a huge mixed batch of cells where each cell has a different gene switched off. Then scan through them under a microscope, looking for anything unusual and when you find it, mark it with a laser so you can pick it out later. 👎THE PROBLEM: the laser light was too intense meaning the tag was switching on and then immediately burned out. 👍THE FIX: turn down the laser power, reduce how long it lingers on each spot, and slightly blur the focus. Simple tweaks but the result is cells that glow much more brightly and reliably helping scientists accurately track cells of interest. Interested in learning more? Have a look at the Research Protocol from @sravmukherjee , Giulia Zanetti, Bram van den Broek, @jalink_kees from @NKI_nl and @UvA_Amsterdam 🔗febs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com…

💃 Our New Cover for @FEBSOpenBio! The latest issue, “In the Limelight: Tumor–Stroma Interactions”, dives into the fascinating world of how cancer cells communicate with their surroundings including non-malignant cells and the extracellular matrix. Guest Editor Isabel Fabregat Romero introduces four insightful review articles exploring these interactions. 💃🕺 Our cover art captures this complex interactions in the methaphore of dance. Just like dancers responding to different rhythms, cells in the tumor microenvironment react to a mix of signals: some signals encourage inflammation (like CCL5 and IFN-γ) and others promote suppression (like TGF-β and IL-10). These “cellular dancers” reflect the dynamic and ever-changing relationships that shape tumor growth and behavior. 🔗 doi.org/10.1002/2211-5463.13… #CancerResearch #TumorMicroenvironment #FEBSOpenBio #sciart #science #scientific_illustration #medicine #ellamaru #sciencegirl #sci_artist #sci_design #cover #scientific_cover #medicalartist #phd #phdlife
