‘Tis the day of women in #Science 💫 Today we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and put the spotlight on the different career paths for women in STEM. In this video, four CERN scientists working on the Future Circular Collider (FCC) feasibility study (@FCC_study) share some advice they have for young women. If you work in STEM, what advice do you have to share? Tell us in the comments. 👇 #WomenInScience #WomenInScience2025 #IDWGS @UN

How do they get particles to hit each other? On the border between France and Switzerland is the biggest science experiment ever built. It’s a tunnel, over 100 meters underground and 27 kilometers long. Inside that tunnel, scientists put a long blue tube… and inside that tube, they put two pipes that they keep colder and emptier than outer space… and down those pipes, they fire particles smaller than atoms in opposite directions, pushing them faster and faster until, when they’re almost the speed of light, they finally smash together! But… how did scientists get those tiny particles to actually hit each other? Here's the answer. It is amazing that humanity can do this. If you like optimistic science and tech stories, follow to see more from our show Huge If True.

Why do scientists smash particles together in a massive underground tunnel? And now, why do so many scientists say that what we really need to do is build... a BIGGER one? For our new episode of Huge If True, we traveled to Switzerland to visit @CERN and explain the Large Hadron Collider. How particle smashing works, why we do it, and what might come next...
