The most shameless Ballon dโOr campaign ever staged was by Real Madrid in 2013. They turned the entire Spanish media into Cristianoโs personal PR department. Then days before voting closed, rolled out a giant banner and handed out his face masks and placards to the fans at the Bernabeu. It was not just a campaign. A club literally on itโs knees, begging the world to give their player an award he couldnโt close on his own.
Yeahโฆ this is the lowest point this sport has ever been.
For the first time ever, players are literally self-campaigning for the Ballon dโOr like itโs some presidential election. They are talking down on each other, disrespecting clubs, and creating metrics by themselves. Neither Messi nor Ronaldo ever did this nonsense.
At this point, cancel the award for this year. Donโt give it to anyone. This is borderline shameful. None of these players pass the character requirements for the award.
