Trenton Garces is preparing to compete in high jump at the UIL State Track Meet next Friday, May 2nd! His trip to state continues a strong tradition—This is the 16th year in a row that Flour Bluff has had at least one athlete compete at the State Track Meet! 🔥🏆 #CPH | #SWARM

Andre Fuqua was a 2010 graduate of Flour Bluff High School. Andre successfully competed in both cross country and track and field during his time here. Upon graduation, Andre continued his running career at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and was also a Corpus Christi Road Runners member. Andre traveled around the state, a gifted and talented athlete participating in many races and making new friends. In addition to running, Andre also enjoyed coaching the younger distance athletes and would often coach the summer track league at Flour Bluff and also enjoyed volunteering his time. Sadly and tragically, Andre was taken from us on January 24, 2017. He was just 25 years old. Andre was loved by many and was a mentor to the younger athletes. Many of the athletes who were fortunate enough to be coached by Andre are still running today. Andre loved distance running, but in particular, during his tenure at Flour Bluff, Andre loved to run the mile. Since 2018, the 1600m run at the Intracoastal relays, hosted by Flour Bluff High School, has been named the Andre Fuqua 1600m run in his honor. The winners of the 2025 Andre Fuqua 1600m run are Eagle Pass’ Alex Alvarez and our very own Kirra Phillips. #CPH | #SWARM

Please join us on Sunday, February 23rd at 1:00 pm to celebrate the life of Ron Rodgers at the Flour Bluff ISD Athletics Facility. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Coach Rodgers Memorial Fund by the Athletic Booster Club. In the bottom right is the QR Code to donate.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Coach Ron Rodgers, a cherished mentor, coach, and lifelong inspiration to our Flour Bluff family. “Coach ‘Capt’ Rodgers loved everything about being a Hornet and dedicated his life to helping our student-athletes on and off the field. His passion, commitment, and unwavering belief in his players left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to know him. He will forever be a part of Flour Bluff ISD, and his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched. Once a Hornet, always a Hornet.” Chris Steinbruck, FBISD Superintendent of Schools With over 46 years of coaching, Coach Rodgers was more than a mentor—he was a guiding force. His passion, wisdom, and unwavering belief in his players shaped them into not just stronger athletes, but better people. His legacy is one of dedication, heart, and an unbreakable commitment to those around him. “Coach Ron Rodgers became part of our Flour Bluff family in 2014 as our Assistant Head Football Coach and Offensive Line Coach. He poured his heart and soul into our student-athletes, always pushing them to be their best while caring for them like his own. His love for the game was undeniable, but his love for his players was even greater—especially his offensive linemen, who held a special place in his heart. Above all, his greatest joy was his granddaughter, Tinley. She was his shining star, and he spoke of her with endless love and pride.” —Clynton Elwood, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Our hearts are with his family and friends during this difficult time. We invite everyone to share memories and photos as we honor Coach Ron Rodgers’ incredible legacy. Counselors, coaches, and staff will be available to support students this week.
