On #FASD Day we share Karen’s story – her daughter lives with FASD, a condition which causes lifelong harm. Yet alcohol labels still carry no mandatory warning. People have a #RightToKnow. Hear Karen & Sue Taylor of @BalanceNE on BBC Newcastle (from 1h22m)

Research into FASD began in the 1970s, yet 50 years later, it is still a disability that is misunderstood and associated with a lot of stigma. Help us end some of that stigma by sharing this message and correcting these myths about FASD.

There is new advice for healthcare workers when it comes to pregnancy and alcohol.
It's part of plans to try and improve diagnosis of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, which can cause children a variety of health issues once they're born.

bbc.co.uk/news/health-607555… Extremely disappointing that @NICEComms have not recommended transferring data on a woman's alcohol intake to her child's medical notes. 1 in 4 children in care are affected by #FASD & they should have the right to have this information on their records

The North suffers the most harm from alcohol, with the North East seeing the worst rate of alcohol related deaths during the pandemic and high rates of alcohol-related cancers spread across the three Northern regions. We need action on alcohol now.
Baroness @IloraFinlay asks if the Government's Levelling Up agenda will specifically target alcohol harm.
Lord @team_greenhalgh responds that it needs addressing.

Many know alcohol causes FASD – & that there is no safe amount, or safe time during pregnancy, to consume alcohol. But did you know FASD affects more people than Downs syndrome, Spina bifida and Cerebral Palsy combined? Or that FASD is twice as prevalent as Autism? #FASDIrl
