🇫🇷 Why the violence? Tuesday #F24Debate asks about the clashes surrounding French high school protests now in their third week. What room for compromise when demands for better school conditions meet pre-election posturing and empty state coffers?
🇫🇷 🎒 🪧 High schoolers across #France continued to blockade their #schools on Thursday, trying to form a "blocus" at the entrances of their schools in #protest. French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said that 625 people, mostly students, had been detained during blockade attempts on Wednesday, noting "an expansion of the movement". But what are they asking for? FRANCE 24's @tanishk_saha explains.

🇧🇷🗳️ Why the far-right comeback in #Brazil? Monday #F24Debate asks about Lula's uphill struggle to beat Bolsonaro in October 25th run-off. Would the election of the son of a former president jailed over an attempted coup would mark a turning point for Brazilian democracy?
🇧🇷 Right-wing Senator Flavio Bolsonaro pulled off a surprise first-place finish ahead of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Sunday's election, which heads to a run-off vote on October 25 as neither clinched a majority. FRANCE 24's correspondent, Tim Vickery, has the details 👇

Will AI write our books? Row over bestseller fuels fear over future of literature f24.my/CC8D

Will AI write our books? Thursday #F24Debate wades into France’s almighty row over a disputed best-seller. Are we all outsourcing our reading and writing? If so, how will humans cope in a post-literate world?
It all had the makings of a fairy tale: a Quebec author of Haitian descent was garnering praise and awards—accolades and laurels alike—in Paris, a city where writing is celebrated and savored just like fine wine. Thélyson Orélien, 38, had won the prestigious Prix du roman Fnac 2026, for his book "C’était ça ou mourir" ( It was This or Die) and was in the running for the "Olympics of prose": the Goncourt. Yet, it all came crashing down with a single post on X alleging that the entire book had been written by AI, based on a test using the Pangram AI detection model. Further tests yielded the same results: 100% of the novel bore the mark of AI. Worse still, a deep dive into Orélien’s past unearthed dozens of blatant instances of plagiarism in his articles, poems, and other works. The literary circles of both Paris and Montreal are now in turmoil ! To whom—and to what—do we owe the genius of a work? To its verbal framework or the musicality that holds it together? Between the recent plagiarism scandal involving Thélyson Orélien, his alleged use of AI, and the rise of algorithms in writing, the concept of literary identity must be redefined... yet again. For this debate is nothing new, as the Alexandre Dumas-Auguste Maquet duel demonstrates. I wrote about that for La Presse. English version in the first reply.⬇️ #ThelysonOrelien #AI #literature @LP_LaPresse
