I think its bc we measure adulthood through independence while making independence increasingly unaffordable. Ppl end up interpreting their economic dependence as evidence of personal immaturity, then seeking the social leniency we afford children. It's a strange feedback loop.

The way feelings sit in people’s bodies is different and how they navigate is different, I understand, but I mainly think the concept of “forgiveness” (at least how it’s been described) is mostly nonsense and I haven’t moved off that perspective.
