I remember this discussion well! Without the #ACA an estimated 1 in 2 Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions were at risk. Thx @LDubay! ⬇️
A little brief I wrote at ASPE many moons ago is suddenly relevant now! Who would be denied coverage if ACA protections for pre-existing conditions were removed? @urbaninstitute aspe.hhs.gov/sites/default/f…

My overview includes a summary of states where carriers are joining or exiting the Marketplace (at least 18 states), premium changes, and details about some changes to state-funded subsidies in a few states. Check it out if you're curious about 2025 individual/family coverage 👇🏻

People who didn't use the individual market pre-ACA often weren't aware of how much of a fine-toothed comb the insurers used to avoid risk. It was common for people to learn about this only when they left an employer's plan & needed to get their own coverage for the first time.

We often think of pre-existing conditions as just the really expensive ones (like cancer or diabetes) that might have left someone seeking to buy their own coverage "uninsurable" But how many ear infections did your kid get last year?

Indiana is the first state where I've seen an approved weighted average rate decrease (-1.3%) for 2025: healthinsurance.org/states/h… 1 carrier is leaving & another is joining. And rate changes vary a lot by carrier. Very important to carefully comparison shop during open enrollment.

Since we seem to be talking about pre-existing conditions again, remember that 27% of adults have a condition that would have led to denied coverage by an insurer in the individual market before the ACA. kff.org/affordable-care-act/…
