Baroness Blake is a junior minister in the Lords. It remains unclear who will lead the Remediation Bill in the Commons.
We assume this may be @FloEshalomi but await confirmation.
We also await good legislation / policy that can work quickly to make a difference on the ground.

Labour's fourth Building Safety Minister in just over two years has finally been confirmed: Baroness Blake of Leeds ⬇️
We look forward to meeting her soon.
And we sincerely hope this minister isn't moved on just as she gets up to speed with this extraordinarily complex brief...

After years of building safety problems and remediation, another inspection found **£7m more work** is needed.
This is what an endless building safety crisis looks like.

Non-Qualifying leaseholders get huge bills to fix defects they didn’t cause, no equivalent support and risk forfeiture

Hi @andyburnham - any chance you could ask @AngelaRayner when Labour's 4th building safety minister in 2 years will be confirmed?
It'd be good to know who'll be in charge of fixing this ongoing horror show.
And that it won't keep being deprioritised 🫣
Much obliged, brother.
We were on BBC Radio London this morning discussing the building safety crisis, why @UKLabour is on course to miss its remediation targets, and what the Government must do next.

Two years under Labour. A fourth Building Safety Minister due soon.
A Remediation Bill that isn't fit for purpose. More excuses for inaction from senior @mhclg officials. Leaseholders remain trapped.
We'll try to have hope, @andyburnham. But hope only gets you so far.

Congratulations Matthew.
As Housing & Planning Minister, alongside @andyburnham & @AngelaRayner, we look forward to you stepping things up to protect “all blameless leaseholders from the costs of…non-cladding defects” & delivering on commitment to support #NonQualifyingLH 🙏
Delighted to remain in post as Housing and Planning Minister and to have been asked by @andyburnham to attend Cabinet in that role.
We’ve made huge strides towards a future where everyone has a secure, decent and affordable home. Time to step things up and see the job through.

Nine years after Grenfell, there is still no understanding that this is a full-blown building safety crisis.
You can't make a building half-safe. This isn't just about cladding.

Successful delivery now "appears to be unachievable".
Two years in government and @UKLabour is going backwards.
Hundreds of thousands remain trapped in unsafe homes.
And they call this change?
The National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority (NISTA) has downgraded the government’s cladding remediation programme to a red rating, warning the programme that work “appears to be unachievable”.

The bill is silent on the key issues @UKLabour spoke so strongly about in opposition: non-cladding defects, non-qualifying leaseholders, the failing Developer Contract, weak risk assessment standards, extortionate buildings insurance & shared ownership.

6 years and counting. There are no buyers for the dozens of flats for sale in our development @SteveReedMP
Local agents say the service charge far exceeds what first-time buyers can pay. They're right.

"Even harder than selling a leasehold is trying to sell a flat with potentially combustible cladding. Changes introduced after the Grenfell tragedy have left tens of thousands of owners across Britain stuck in buildings that are considered unsafe."
Last month, a new account called London Price Drop appeared on X. It has already gained more than 14,000 followers simply by posting screenshots from Rightmove, which illustrate how properties in the capital are falling sharply in value.
One of these is a leasehold flat in Shepherd’s Bush purchased for £425,000 in 2017, before being re-listed for £395,000 in May 2024, and eventually sold for £325,000 last August. Adjusted for inflation, that represents a real terms loss of close to £250,000.
The London Price Drop account is so popular because it contradicts an assumption that many in Britain hold dear. Young or old, owner or renter, almost all of us believe that buying property is the route to wealth, and that house prices, in the long run, always go up.
It’s scary and surprising then to discover that properties, especially flats, inside the M25 are losing their value so quickly.
