As a Geoscientist, I think this is fear mongering. Why 8? Why not 9?
Soft collision between plates happened in Miocene and since then there has been stress from Hindukush to Burma (not just Kumaun).
Secondly, small earthquakes keeps on releasing energy, which is good.
The ground under Uttarakhand is quietly storing energy for a massive earthquake, says new study
The Himalaya above us may look calm. But deep below, something big is building up.
A new study by researchers from IIT Bombay and the University of New Mexico has found that the Main Himalayan Thrust, the giant fault line under Uttarakhand where the Indian plate slides beneath the Tibetan plate, is locked.
That means the two plates aren’t sliding smoothly. They’re stuck, and the energy from their constant push is piling up underground, with nowhere to go.
Using data from GNSS satellite stations and Japan’s ALOS-2 radar satellite, the researchers found the fault is locked across a width of about 115 km, building up strain at about 18 mm a year. The higher Himalaya is rising by 4 to 6 mm a year as a result. Their estimate: the energy building up beneath Uttarakhand is enough for one magnitude 8.1 earthquake every 100 years.
Uttarakhand sits in what scientists call the Central Himalayan Seismic Gap, a stretch where no truly massive earthquake has struck in a very long time. Earlier, scientists disagreed on how tightly the fault here was locked. This study adds strong evidence that it’s firmly stuck, in both Garhwal and Kumaon.
Wadia Institute geologist Dr Naresh Kumar puts it plainly: an earthquake can’t be predicted exactly, but a magnitude 7.5 to 8 quake in the Himalaya is a matter of when, not if.
And the danger isn’t just in the hills. The researchers warn that the Indo-Gangetic plains, home to about 40% of India’s population, could also be hit hard.
The study doesn’t say when it will happen, or exactly how strong it will be. But it does say we can’t afford to wait to prepare.
That means following earthquake-safe building rules, surveying old and weak buildings, making schools and hospitals safe, and building real disaster preparedness in every town and village.
In a state where buildings keep rising on fragile slopes, this is a warning worth taking seriously.

Fibre ke naam par logon ko chara khila diya😭 FSSAI says bran meant for cattle feed was being used as a source of fibre in Priyagold biscuit manufacturing by Surya Food & Agro Ltd.
This is what science does..
I am sure the pilot is going to be successful
India’s first indigenous glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) warning system has been installed at Vasundhara Tal in Chamoli, at around 16,000 ft.
A 15-member team from CSIR-CBRI Roorkee trekked 16 km from the ITBP base camp and spent 15 days setting it up. Private firms had quoted Rs 8 crore. CBRI built it for about Rs 61 lakh.
The system tracks the lake’s water level, avalanches, landslides, the natural dam and weather, and sends data via satellite every two hours, instantly in an emergency.
After a 6 to 8 month pilot, it will be set up at more lakes. Villages and camps downstream have already been mapped.

GDM-friendly raita rule:
• Use hung / low-fat curd, never sweetened curd.
• 1 katori WITH meal, not as dessert.
• Best combo: Lauki / Kheera raita + Dal + Salad = Stable glucose.
• Stick to Lauki, Kheera, Gajar raita.
• Skip Aloo & Dry Fruits raita.

I dare don’t go there..
your sanity is lost by staying in the line for long..
The Adani domestic lounges at t2 mumbai airport are now akin to a railway station. Huge queues, almost anyone and everyone gets in. Food is served in the most shabby way as if leftovers of some marriage buffett. Even the sanctity of their own lounge card is defeated as there is hardly any place to sit. More than retail, there are large no of credit card pop ups literally as if hawking with “card le lo, saste mein le lo” feel.
What started as a high quality experience is diminishing in lounge and airport experience.
A mere 26 km from Nainital, and 10 km from Bhowali on Ramgarh Mukteshwar route, people of village Umagarh are asking for a metalled road for last 10-12 years.
absolutely radio silence.. villagers are collecting money and repairing at their own every time weather goes awry.
Look at the irony and tragedy. I read a statement this morning from our CM @pushkardhami that projects worth 2.25 Lakh Crores are ongoing in #Uttarakhand. Thats an awful lot of money. But in far flung Chamoli district, people from 50 villages are undertaking a protest march till Dehradun. Can you guess why they are forced to do this? All they are asking for is a proper, functional, base hospital. Goes to show how warped our political priorities are and how shallow our govts have become in their single minded pursuit of so called development and project execution.
Sustainable developement has always been the call for Himalayas.
But then there are cheerleaders of tourism who do not want to leave any stone unturned to milk the hill’s resources in the name of tourism.
Nepal is facing flash floods AGAIN 💔 latest visuals from Gorkha district are heartbreaking. The entire Himalayan belt needs to learn from what’s happening in Nepal. Our mountains are fragile, and we can’t keep ignoring nature in the name of development. #Nepal
Nahi nahi abhi hame paryatan ko aur badhawa dena hai.. 6-8 lane road banani hai..

We have witnessed elite class of tourist during our growing up days in 80’s and 90’s and from there we use to get hint of fashion (what’s trending). What class it use to have..
The suave tourist no more visit Nainital now. They ceded that space to Chhapris.

I have been associated with elections right from the nineteen seventies. From Seshan onwards I have known many CECs and ECs well.
I have deliberately kept away from the ECI controversy because almost everything said about it is immediately labelled political and biased. But it has now reached a point where silence seems equally wrong.
Forget for a moment who is accusing whom. All that matters is that the Supreme Court wants to know how certain decisions were taken and who took them. There should be a record—files, notings, minutes, electronic trails. If something that should exist cannot be produced, that too will have to be explained.
What troubles me most is the damage already done. The ECI once carried enormous credibility, including abroad. So did India for conducting elections on an extraordinary scale with an Election Commission trusted to be independent.
Whatever the eventual explanation, that reputation has taken a knock. It took decades to build. I hope we understand what is at stake.

Umagarh is the village in Uttarakhand, where famous poetess Late Sushri Mahadevi Vermaji spent her life. The state of the village road is really terrible and villagers have been trying to knock every door for last 14 years but to no avail. We hope our honourable PM Modiji will take notice of the plea of this young girl from our village and direct concerned department to provide us with this basic amenity.

Kedarnath Dham : fewer pilgrims, far more garbage
First, look at the crowds.
2023: 19.61 lakh pilgrims
2024: 16.52 lakh pilgrims
2025: 17.68 lakh pilgrims
2026: Over 15 lakh pilgrims so far, till September
Now look at the garbage, in metric tonnes, as per the Kedarnath Nagar Panchayat.
2023: 32.58 MT
2024: 26.10 MT
2025: 21.40 MT
2026: 50.30 MT, in just five months from April to August
Read that again. In 2025, nearly 18 lakh people came and 21.4 tonnes of waste was recorded. This year, with fewer people so far, the dham has already produced more than two and a half times that.
About 20 tonnes of this year's waste is plastic. 18.5 tonnes has been processed, but around 1.5 tonnes still remains.
Faith brings us to Kedarnath. Our plastic shouldn't stay behind after we leave.
Someone finally said it
We don't want ration or money. We want hospitals and roads."
Video from Bangar area, Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand
A woman from the Bangar area of Rudraprayag has said what many in the hills feel. In a video now going viral, she talks about the broken roads, poor health services and weak schools in her area.
She says people here have been struggling with the same problems for 13 to 14 years, and nothing has really changed. The roads are so bad that accidents are always a risk.
Milking the Himalaya, as much as it can..
Just look at the crowds heading to Kedarnath. This is not sustainable, besides garbage generation, it leads to local warming in the region.
Road widening is destabilising the mountains, black carbon from emissions, fire causes glacier melt #Himalayas
