DOUBLING DOWN ON @IMPACT_COMP! After years of taking a shotgun approach to philanthropy, I’ve realized that the best way to make a difference is to pick a select few causes that deeply resonate with you AND where you can personally have the most tangible impact. That is why this year, I decided to even more heavily invest into Impact Competition. What I love about getting involved with small orgs is that I never feel like I’m just another drop in an infinitely bigger bucket. I get to see the impact firsthand. I believe deeply in experiential education. When you expose students to the social problems in their own communities, then empower them to actually build solutions, you can change the trajectory of how they think about their ability to make a difference for the rest of their lives. That is why our motto is Compounding Positive Change. We aren’t just trying to solve one problem today. We’re trying to create a generation of students who spend their lives believing they can solve the hard meaningful problems around them. We already reach nearly 500 students per year. My goal now is to turn Impact Competition into a national organization, with competitions throughout the country and reach 10x that amount. The first step has been hiring a best-in-class fundraising team to help us build the infrastructure to scale Impact Comp into what I believe it deserves to become. I’ve never been more excited about what we’re building! And I can’t wait to highlight to you all what we achieve 🌎❤️ -(The One) Lance B

ASK ME ANYTHING! Unanswered questions, unclear statements, charts, trading rules, psychology, risk, sizing, strategy, the Market Wizards chapter, the 2020 run, the run since, anything. I’m thinking of writing again on Substack, a few deeper posts per month, similar to how Burry started writing again. I want the first essays to answer the questions people actually care about the most. So reply with the one question you would want me to go deepest on. The best ones, perhaps with most likes to show interest will become the first ones answered. theshortbear.substack.com/

The world is changing faster than ever. Fortunately, students around the country are focused on making it a better place. This video highlights the incredible work of my non-profit, @Impact_Comp & @Cornell during their latest competition. youtu.be/EfxF4c0km5U?si=A5vM…

Evolution designed our psychology to never be content and to always want more resources. My belief is that our goal in life is to reprogram our thinking so that we maximize our happiness and then the happiness of those around us. Doing so involves accepting that we have enough.
The most content of my successful friends knew when to stop chasing the number game.

I TRADE CHARTS, NOT VIEWS I can’t believe that the market is ripping to ATH so quickly. I can’t believe that oil is back to $80. Both don’t make sense to me. How much have I lost short the market? $0 How much have I lost long oil? $0 It’s because I’m not trading my views. I know my views are total shit and useless. I trade hyper-specific chart patterns that have proven statistical edge. If my view aligns with it, that might help me size it. But never is a view ever sufficient for me to put risk on without the technicals backing it up.

Many know for the last 8 years I’ve been running a non-profit, @Impact_Comp. We fund competitions at universities and challenge students to help solve the issues facing local non-profits. Winning teams get cash prizes and seed money to implement their ideas and see real change in their communities. Until you attend one of these competitions, it’s impossible to explain how inspiring and motivating it is to be a part of. These students genuinely care about their communities and helping these orgs. I jokingly always say that me attending these is like that scene in 22 Jump Street when Channing Tatum goes back to school and it’s suddenly cool to care about the world you. Yesterday, I was at @UHouston for their 3rd annual competition which sought to help @impacthubHOU. We all see traders using AI to empower their work, but it’s incredible seeing students using AI to empower positive change. Nobody knows what the future holds. There will be bumps. But as long as we have our best and brightest students around the world using tech to make the world a better place, I’m bullish on our future ☀️🌎🙏 Care to help out? Spread the good word or simply follow us at @Impact_Comp here or impact_competition on Insta!

It sure seems like every online trader is a fraud and that this whole industry needs to burn. The big-name influencers are frauds, the funded trader affiliates are frauds, even the small nobodies are frauds. There is one point that I think is very important to underscore: This dynamic exists because being consistently profitable at trading is THAT hard. Not even to make millions, but to just make $200k/yr consistently. So if you EVER see someone only posting wins or selling a lifestyle or talking about how their followers are all banking…. RUN FOR YOUR FUCKING LIFE! And if you ARE able to make a consistent living trading, even with the ups and downs, know that YOU ARE FAR MORE TALENTED THAN YOU IMAGINE! If you feel inferior but are able to support you and your family by trading, know that you are a FUCKING HERO! Every pro trader I know struggles. Tends to have 1-2 months per year of drawdown. Tends to have a <70% daily win-rate. Yet go ahead, ask Grok to analyze what percent of pnl posts by Patrick Wieland or Matt Coward are wins. The response is all you need to know. 95%+. When you see the funded trader influencers or any trader only posting wins, just know: IT IS ALL AN ILLUSION DUE TO BROKEN INCENTIVES BECAUSE REAL TRADING IS THAT HARD!

With our demanding job as traders, is it worth trading your health for wealth? Are you even aware you’re making a trade-off? What are your boundaries? Part of what Alex Hormozi so often preaches is the authentic raw truth. Many of you may have noticed on my YouTube videos that I start every single video saying that the reason why I'm now focusing on mentorship and teaching is that “I'm done trading my health for wealth. If you all are in the trenches and willing to trade your health for wealth, then I'm here, happy to teach you”. And I don’t view that hook as hyperbole. I do think that trading comes at a real cost physically and emotionally, and I absolutely do think that cost can be worth paying. Many have asked me if I regret trading with the intensity that I did. I absolutely do not. Trading has given me a quality of life and a freedom that I never could have dreamed of as a young adult or child, the ability to never worry about money. That said, I certainly wish I better prioritized sleep during those times and didn’t drink as much back then. I wish I got outside more and took more breaks. I do think the job has aged me and particularly my eye health. But we don’t know, what we don’t know. The point I want to raise in this post is that the trade-off is real and with the push towards 24/7 trading, this is a topic more and more traders will need to come to grips with. Even if you are doing trading in its most healthy form, you inevitably increase your stress and lose your presence in everyday life. The job also tends to be highly sedentary. At its more extreme forms, you are working crazy long hours, monitoring the markets overnight while being hit with cortisol and adrenaline again and again. This is triggering your fight or flight response, yet we are sedentary and going nowhere, which is one of the worst things for our body. Chronic stress mixed with sedentariness, while not getting outdoors, plus often that stress is associated with poor eating, alcohol, and other substances. Now, look, if you are 22 years old or 25 years old or even 35 or 45 years old, that sacrifice can totally be worth it. The first $10,000 or $100,000 you make is absolutely life-changing if you don't have it. The first million you make is more marginal, but still absolutely life-changing. My challenge to you all is to reflect on: what price are you willing to pay? The far harder part is being willing to accept the trade-off. If you are going all in, you need to accept that you will get sick more often. You will not feel great on many days. You will have very high emotional highs and very low emotional lows. That being said, if you are willing to set boundaries on your trading, you must be okay missing out on performance and opportunities. It is totally okay to say that you will only trade the markets from 9:30 to 4:00, but then you must be okay missing moves in silver overnight or pre-market headlines or whatever else may be the case. There are some traders out there that truly don’t have the temperament to be traders. The lows are too low for them. It ruins their well-being and quality of life. They get chronically depressed or suicidal. That price will never be worth paying. I'm not here to tell you what the right answer is, because I don't think there is a right answer. It depends on your values and where you are in your life. The most important point is to make an intentional decision and then do your best to emotionally and psychologically accept the trade-offs.

YOU NEED TO GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO GET LUCKY! Caught up last night with one of my favorite traders in the world. He had a REALLY tough first half of the year. Family health issues, kids, financial pressure, pulled in a million directions with his focus fragmented. As a result, his trading suffered. External pressure is the death of all traders and he was feeling a ton of it. Nobody is more resilient than this trader though. He doubled down on his process and worked his ass off. Sure enough, while everyone is on holiday, he gets “lucky” and a trade falls in his lap. That trade released all the external pressure on him. Turned his whole year around from there, especially as his market started to heat up. What looks like “luck” is often preparation meeting opportunity. Here is the thing though… if your external pressures are too high, you never make it long enough to hit the lucky patch. Always always always do everything in your power to reduce outside pressure. Stash some acorns, live way below your means, and never get complacent in this game. Proud of my good mate for his turnaround 🙏❤️

A gym membership is expensive. A trainer is expensive. Books are expensive. A psychologist is expensive. Nothing is more expensive than not growing. In what areas is the expense worth the growth?

Often, as humans, we default to the path of least resistance regardless of whether it is what is optimal for us. Where are you taking the easy path at the expense of your goals?

It is hard to relate and fully internalize words. Most of life’s hardest lessons can only be learned through experiencing the emotions for ourselves. -You only need to get rich once -Health is overloooked until you lose it -Relationships lead to happiness, not money
In many cases, what you hope to learn by reading books or listening to podcasts can only be learned by attempting what you fear. Some knowledge is only revealed through action.
