Successful settlement of pink sea fan larvae for Kaila Wheatley Kornblum with @AquariumCurator and the team at the Horniman Museum aquarium: three perfect early stage fans - just a single polyp each at this stage - first time we have observed this in this temperate coral species.
Working with Jamie Craggs and his team at the Horniman Museum in London, Kaila W K (Exeter) has successfully managed to observe the pink sea fan, Eunicella verrucosa, spawning; the first time that this has been reported in a temperate soft coral.

Such a cool study by @KirstyLMacleod and the @ExeterEvo team, showing that rare dispersers drive gene flow & IBD, and prevent significant genetic drift & differentiation, in otherwise disconnected marine populations. Well done all for the immense hard work underpinning this! 🌊🪸
New paper out on marine connectivity in the pink sea fan - how do they stay connected over such huge distances across oceans and seas? Congrats to Kirsty Macleod and the team for uncovering this mystery!

🪸 New research on marine connectivity in pink sea fans led by @KirstyLMacleod ✨
Using genome-wide SNPs and passive dispersal modelling, we found that rare and longer dispersal events likely explains range-wide isolation-by-distance.

KMac, aka Kirsty Macleod delivers the definitive word on genetic connectivity in pink sea fan! Great job!!! (even managed to work in reference to TJenks’ Eunicella range expansion paper!). Fab!
