Believe papertrade has a real shot at becoming the next major funnel for onboarding retail into crypto.
Perps have been a mainstay of crypto for nearly a decade, but the UI/UX has largely kept them confined to more sophisticated traders, especially over the past 5 years.
Shitters filled the gap as the retail-friendly asset of choice, but the space has become increasingly extractive and arguably peaked, especially with coin "devs" blatantly cabaling and rugging their own launches.
@papertrade_xyz isn't particularly unique as an idea, but it has a few advantages that are incredibly difficult to replicate:
1) Built by degens, for degens. The dopamine-maxing, high-leverage, tick UX experience is insanely fitting for TikTok zoomers
2) Bucket shop synthetic perps massively simplify the trading experience. No funding rates, no complicated perp mechanics, just highly leveraged exposure up to 1000x, like those 1000x fx shops
3) Traditional bucket shops have historically bordered on outright scams, since you're effectively trading against the house. User ownership and transparent onchain accounting however, gives it a lot of credibility
4) if paper launches a slick mobile app and lists tradfi stuff, it could potentially one-shot retail, especially the 0DTE wsb degens
It's still early, but even the lowest annualized revenue figures are hovering around $1B, which is frankly insane. Coupled with the clean tokenomics, profit sharing, and giving "equity" to users, the case is quite easily made.
