15 years later, his killer pleaded guilty.
Aug. 4, 2011, Caleb Witty, 17, was walking his 14-year-old sister home from the Decatur Celebration in Decatur, Illinois.
2 men tried to rob them and pistol-whipped Caleb.
Caleb stepped in front of his sister so she could run, and he was shot multiple times.
Point-blank range.
The case went cold until witnesses came forward and police arrested Michael Wallace and Bobby Gipson in June 2024.
Monday, Oct. 19, the morning his trial was set to begin, Wallace, 36, pleaded guilty to 1st degree murder.
The plea dropped the firearm enhancement and 3 other murder counts, capping his sentence at 40 years.
He faces 20 to 40 years when he's sentenced Dec. 8.
Gipson is charged with 1st degree murder, has pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors say Gipson has 3 prior felony convictions and 3 misdemeanor convictions.
He is due back in court Nov. 5.
