In the fullness of time, LLMs will eventually become commodities and their price will be a race to the bottom. As the competitive advantage of one LLM over another shrinks - particularly as open source models expand - the value proposition will turn to the neuro/symbolic harnesses that use those models, structures that encompass agents, agent orchestration, tooling, and component plugins. Even those from frontier AI organizations will fall to open source frameworks. The last thing standing will be those who command the data centers on which these things run, and even then, that will become a commodity, with the number of players shrinking to just a few survivors. They too will find pressure: as computational power rises, more and more such systems will be run locally.

Prediction: an open source app will win at this very soon and there will be a mass exodus from Claude. I say that while also considering Claude to be the best product I’ve ever used in my life. The frontier labs have no moat.
Is there a harness like Claude cowork that is easy for users and that plugs into open source models and have company multiplayer mode?

AI is built on chips. Military drones rely on the AI that flies them. Together, they represent the biggest industrial opportunity of our lifetimes, a tight fit with Britain’s exceptional manufacturing heritage. We will capture that opportunity and reindustralise Britain 🇬🇧 ft.com/content/5b789a38-c9ca…

Amazing breakthrough!
10x more tokens per megawatt. CoreWeave has the first measured performance of NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72, showing 10x improvement in tokens per second per megawatt on DeepSeek-R1 compared to Blackwell.

The Prime Minister, @andyburnham, today asked me to attend Cabinet as Minister for AI, a sign of his deep commitment to AI's importance. AI is likely the most significant technology in human history. Its impact will dwarf other things. The best case for it is compelling beyond our dreams: a reindustrialised Britain, stronger national security, public services transformed for the better. The risks, too, are real: it is right that the British public shares those worries, for jobs, for the pace of change. The central fact is that it is happening. Nations have a narrow window to decide whether they shape AI or get shaped by it. Britain is in that window right now. While that window is still open, I will act with pace, I will act with ambition, and I will focus relentlessly on securing British influence in shaping AI. I will also bring to this job the place I represent - a constituency in Wales, a nation with industry and ambition at its heart, a proud history of punching above its weight on the global stage. A nation which welcomed a 12-year old and his family, gave us the best chance at opportunity, put me in Parliament as Wales' first ethnic minority MP, and now affords me the chance to make a mark in Cabinet. Diolch o galon to everyone in the Vale of Glamorgan. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Open source superintelligence is inevitable.
GLM-5.2 is the open-source Claude moment. The demand we’re seeing at Databricks is astonishing. The world is going to see massive adoption of oss LLMs. Also, more companies will shift toward post-training their own models on top of oss models and owning the weights.

Coinbase have significantly cut their token spend by routing to cheaper open models for less demanding tasks. As the standard of all models increases, the trend toward lower cost open source models is inevitable.
How to keep AI spend flat while token usage grows exponentially: Not with friction and spend alerts. With better defaults, routing, and caching. Better Defaults (not Usage Caps) – Engineers can choose any model they want, but defaults matter. We’re experimenting with defaulting to open weight models like GLM 5.2 and Kimi 2.7 through our LLM gateway, while still encouraging engineers to choose the right model for the task. 91% of our employees were never hitting their usage caps, so instead of lowering caps and driving up alerts, we're moving to cheaper defaults. Note that code reviews use a diversity of models, so they can check each other's work. Better Routing – In our custom harnesses, we preprocess prompts and route to the best model for the job, considering cache hits and model pricing. For instance, you may want a frontier model for planning, but not for execution where they can be overkill. Ultimately, humans shouldn't be choosing models - AI can automate this task. Better Caching – Cache misses are the easiest way to drive your cost up. All of our requests are cache aware, so we’re reusing a warm cache wherever possible. For example, our cache hit rate went from 5% → 60% in LibreChat once properly implemented. Keep Context Lean – Start fresh sessions when switching tasks. Scope file context narrowly. Disconnect unused tools. Don't just compact. The goal isn't fewer tokens used, it's fewer tokens wasted. Better Visibility – Our engineers can use as many tokens as they want, from whatever model they want, but we’ve made usage visible – and the more you spend on AI, the more impact we expect. The goal isn't to suppress usage. It's to build the infrastructure that makes exponential growth sustainable. Putting this into practice has cut our AI spend nearly in half, while our token usage continues to grow.

I learned recently that a popular view in government is that there is little value in allowing data centres to be built because they don't create many "good jobs".

It costs 4x more to power a large data centre in the UK (£220M) than the US (£55M). In the long run, token cost = energy cost. The cheaper we make energy, the more intelligence we can harness.
Replying to @ClaireCoutinho
Annual cost to power a 100MW data centre: 🇺🇸 £55 million 🇸🇪 £67 million 🇫🇷 £156 million 🇬🇧 £220 million (!)

The Mythos export ban has been a useful wake up call at a point where the stakes are still relatively low. It is inconceivable that any business or government service that relies on agents (as many will in the coming years) would do this on infrastructure that could be turned off at a moment’s notice. Everyone will choose to run their agents on infrastructure they own and control. What Sakana and Anthropic have built is impressive but will sooner or later be replicated by an open model. Given the choice, every organisation will choose open models they can run themselves over closed models they don’t control.
Introducing Sakana Fugu: A full multi-agent orchestration system accessible via a single model API. Our ‘Fugu Ultra’ model matches the performance of Fable and Mythos, delivering frontier capability without the risk of export controls. Try it: sakana.ai/fugu 🐡

The cost of building a hyperscale data centre. Notice how land is a tiny sliver of the left column, yet due to our slow planning system land is one of the major bottlenecks to building AI in the UK. @downingARK

Excellent from @hodsonwill on how to reform Britain’s energy system. We urgently need cheaper energy for the AI data centre build-out and to support the new batch of homegrown advanced manufacturing companies which are starting to emerge.
Britain is in an Energy Emergency. But the Government is FAILING TO ACT. They have no plan, no idea what to do, and they’re leaving us exposed. So today we’re launching The LFG Emergency Energy Bill to SAVE OUR INDUSTRIES and GET BILLS DOWN Here’s how it would get bills down IMMEDIATELY: 1️⃣ SCRAP all levies on energy bills. These stealth taxes on the British people are unnecessarily hiking up their bills by hundreds of pounds. 2️⃣ REOPEN THE NORTH SEA, and directly deploy the tax revenue generated to GET BILLS DOWN. 3️⃣ Stop new CfD contracts and launch an investigation into the system that signed them off. Last year, billpayers paid £1.5 billion for big renewable corporations to THROW ENERGY AWAY. By 2030, it’ll be £8 billion. The existing settlement is a national scandal. 4️⃣ Scrap Clean Power 2030 targets. These needless constraints have pushed civil servants to procure wind at any cost – and at huge expense to the British people. 5️⃣ DITCH the duties of energy regulators, NESO and Ofgem, towards Net Zero goals, so their only focus is to MINIMISE ENERGY COSTS, subject to security of supply. 6️⃣ Hold auctions for connecting to the grid, and directly deploy the revenue generated to GET BILLS DOWN Our Emergency Energy Bill has cross-party support. It is ready to PASS IMMEDIATELY. It does what governments for the past 20 years didn’t – it takes RADICAL ACTION to SAVE OUR INDUSTRIES and GET BILLS DOWN. There’s no excuse. Last week, the US suspended access to some of the world’s leading frontier AI models. Britain is vulnerable - and our energy prices are strangling our national security. We cannot afford to be at the mercy of other countries or events beyond our control any longer. The Government needs to GET BILLS DOWN NOW or explain why they’re still letting this emergency destroy our future. Force Westminster to ACT. Send our Bill to your local MP and sign our letter to the Prime Minister and Ed Miliband. GET BILLS DOWN, NOW!

This is what AI sovereignty looks like. If Europe isn’t able to build equivalents to the most powerful models, both today and in the future as new breakthroughs happen, then it will be impossible to keep up with the US and China. Europe will become an economic and geopolitical vassal in the AI age.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

Agree. I’ve started running everything (intel, new processes, code, data) through an AI company brain using Claude and Supabase - it is amazingly powerful.
Increasingly, I believe companies may need to be rebuilt from the ground up, where you have a single timeline of all observability + product metrics + file changes laid out in a retrievable system, like Datadog + Posthog + Google Drive + Slack (really unified filesystem of Claude Code chats + Codex chats). This might be the new data foundation for any and all companies to maximize AI. Needs to be rebuilt because keeping track of diffs on existing system basically impossible to produce longitudinal information on decisions and rollbacks, something coding agent storage companies are actively trying to figure out, but this should extend to businesses as a whole. Highly skeptical existing businesses will adopt this though because it means overhauling everything about their instrumentation and business data, but I think businesses built on this foundation probably can execute 100x better and faster

This is an alarming but reasonable prediction. The UK needs to build data centres on an enormous scale.
"What will happen to Europe if it keeps ignoring AI?" Three American labs each (!!) operate more AI compute than all of Europe combined. Today we're launching Europe 2031: a story of what might happen if that doesn't change.
