Pleased to announce @CarlenaOrosco will be joining @EvidenceBaseJnl as Managing Editor in Charge of Reviews.
This move will help EB become EVEN MORE efficient (thx @DrLornaFerguson) at getting papers through the submission process (esp. bc Carlena is a keener).

One of the benefits of publishing with @EvidenceBaseJnl is the opportunity to also get a book chapter. These are papers from our inaugural issue.

I'm not jumping into this specific debate but I need to be very clear here from an editor POV. Using AI for many journals is a considered breach of academic integrity and legal confidentiality. Always check the publishers policy on AI use for peer reviews.
Major publishers and COPE explicitly ban it as this is giving away an author’s unpublished intellectual property to a commercial data bank. Taylor & Francis for @EvidenceBaseJnl notes clearly: "editors and peer reviewers must not upload files, images, or information from unpublished manuscripts into Generative AI tools. Failure to comply with this policy may infringe upon the rightsholder’s intellectual property." Find here: taylorandfrancis.com/our-pol…
It is entirely backwards that we are asking peer review not be AI-assisted. The thankless job that academics do unwillingly for free is exactly the type of thing that you should use AI for. As someone that went through the process as an author - - peer reviews are already poor quality and incredibly biased. Using LLMs would make them a little more objective

Straight into my veins. Absolutely yes.
One of the things I like about @EvidenceBaseJnl is our commentaries. I am wondering, though, whether it would be useful to have a debate section. Someone writes a commentary & we invite 1 or 2 others to reply. 🤔

Call for eyes again: Anyone willing to review a manuscript on mass shooters?
Also, if you are willing to be added to our reviewer pool more generally, please do get in touch with your research interests - we have several fab manuscripts coming through, and diverse expertise is welcome to review and improve submissions. DM or email: [email protected].

Looking for peer reviewers for @EvidenceBaseJnl. Is anyone willing and available to review a manuscript on any one of these topics?:
- Prisons in the Global South context
- Police officer wellbeing
- Violence against women and girls
Let me know.

6/6 We have no confidence in the efficacy of sex offender treatment programs because of poor research quality and a general unwillingness for thousands of existing programs to publish their outcomes. We can and must do better.

The levels in the process where this could have been caught, just wow. In case people don't know the number of hands a manuscript passes through at a journal from submission to publication, here is a likely route:
> Journal editorial office - didn't catch it in pre-checks.
> Administrator - didn't catch it in pre-checks.
> Senior managing editor - didn't catch it during evaluation for fit and quality, and designation to the team.
> Managing editor - didn't catch in review for sending to peer reviewers.
> 2+ expert peer reviewers (depending on # of revisions, etc.) - didn't catch it in review.
> Senior managing editor/managing editor - again didn't catch it but this time when evaluating reviewer comments and making recommendations to the editor.
> Editor-in-chief - didn't catch it in review and decisions.
> Pre-production person - didn't catch it for sending to production and batch assignment.
> Production and proofing - didn't catch it in the comprehensive final checks.
Have I made my point?
I don't know why I'm shocked, but I am. As a community, we need to come together to discuss this and develop a plan.
Hallucination of the day, an article on a qualitative study on Banking professionals perception of AI use in cybersecurity I estimate has over 20 hallucinations.
I have actually published in Security Journal, it is a legit journal. (I sent this note to Bonnie, hopefully this paper just gets retracted.)

Sharing our latest tech and policing paper, now live at @EvidenceBaseJnl.
How does AI review of police body cameras stack up against human review? Pretty well when it comes to *poor* policing, while human reviewers struggle to parse “good” versus “great” policing.
Our recently published multisite RCT on TRULEO found substantively large improvements to police professionalism via automated feedback to officers and supervisors. Here, we validate those measures against human judgement.
This is not a “procedural justice” paper but some lessons to struggle with here I think. Agencies can rely on algorithms to stand-in as a flag what the public might see as problematic in a police interaction. On the other hand, recognizing top performance does not necessarily translate cleanly for the public, but is obviously important to surface internally!
Thanks as always to my incredible @UofSC and @ClemsonUniv colleagues Kyle McLean, Paige Vaughn, Alexis Fabila, and Geoffrey Alpert. Thanks as well to @ProfLauraHuey and the Evidence Base crew for shepherding the paper thru reviews.
