🤩 The EU is plainly willing to build differentiated structures that give non members very deep Single Market participation.
This is brilliant news.
🇪🇺🇦🇩🇸🇲 A landmark day for the EU, Andorra and San Marino. By signing the Association Agreement, we open a new chapter of deeper cooperation, with real benefits for people.
Not simply an agreement for today. An investment in the decades ahead.

Brexit is the only project I can think of where, ten years later, the people who sold it to us are still explaining why it’s somebody else’s fault.

🇷🇺🇨🇳🇺🇸 YALTA 2.0: Are We About to Witness History Repeating Itself?
In February 1945, Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin met in Yalta to negotiate the future of Europe. Whole Easter Europe and Poland paid the price, spending decades under Commie Soviet Russia.
Now, more than 80 years later, Putin reportedly wants Trump and Xi to meet and negotiate Ukraine’s future, potentially without Ukraine or Europe at the table.
And according to reports, Putin himself sees this as another Yalta.
As someone born in Poland who lived under communism, I find this absolutely chilling.
The fate of sovereign nations must not be decided by three powerful men behind closed doors.
I said that before and will say it again, over my dead, cold body if needed.
No new Yalta. No new spheres of influence. No surrender of Ukraine’s or European sovereignty.

By almost every economic and financial measure Brexit has been disastrous for the UK and Nigel Farage knows it
“There is not a single sign of any overall economic damage done by Brexit” says @Nigel_Farage
Meanwhile back on planet earth by almost every economic & financial measure Brexit has been disastrous for the UK
Is anyone seriously buying his bull****?

Nigel Farage gave a conference platform to the woman who tweeted 'set fire to all the fucking hotels full of the bastards' in the middle of the Southport riots. He's suprisingly less supportive of burning buildings in France.

The idea that the British people voted for Brexit always has been gaslighting. Finally, it seems ok to say so.

🚨 ✅ @dsmitheconomics is encouraged to see @andyburnham seeking to reduce the economic damage of Brexit by moving Britain closer to the EU.
He’s right. The potential gains are huge.
Goldman Sachs estimates Brexit has already cost the UK around 6% of GDP -roughly £190bn.
And there is substantial economic upside from rebuilding our relationship with Europe:
🇪🇺 Customs union: +1% GDP
🇪🇺 Single Market: +2–5% GDP
And this isn’t just about growth.
Single Market would also strengthen Britain’s resilience in food, energy and supply chains.
Let’s crack on and repair it.

Did ordinary people in the UK vote to leave the EU?
No!
We voted in an advisory referendum.
Not to leave the Single Market.
Not to lose Freedom of Movement.
Not for higher living costs.
Previous UK governments chose Brexit for us
But we can choose to change it.

Fascinating new research: it demonstrates the importance of gravity models in international trade. Turns out, not surprisingly, that most of Britain’s trade was with markets closer to home.

You can have voted Leave in 2016 and want Britain to rejoin the EU in 2026.
You don't have to apologise. You don't have to explain yourself.
Changing your mind when circumstances change isn't weakness.
It's common sense.

I agree with Liz. Sovereignty was viewed far too narrowly in 2016, cast solely in terms of ‘making our own laws’ without reference to anything else including:
• we already had complete (& IMO greater) sovereignty
• every treaty impinges on sovereignty, if sovereignty is misunderstood
• if ever a country needed to be governed by someone else, it’s the UK, which should be in special measures
• because we orbit the EU, like it or not, we are bound to align with its laws in its areas of competence, but now without any influence over them. Brilliant!
We have become so used to functioning markets that we confuse money with security.
I learnt the difference during the tsunami in the Maldives. While we waited to be evacuated, some British tourists had gathered their passports, cigarettes and money.
I had water, food and torch/lifejacket.
In a crisis, the value hierarchy changes very quickly.
The same is true of nations. GDP, trade deals and financial assets matter but if you cannot reliably secure food, energy, water and essential supplies, you are not resilient.
You cannot eat sovereignty. You cannot heat a home with a trade slogan.
Real national security starts with the things people physically need to survive.
I am reminded of the fact that North Korea calls itself the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea"...
🚨🇮🇱🇪🇸 Netanyahu threatens Spain live on air:
"Spain has smeared the reputation of the Israeli army, the most moral army in the world, and repeatedly opposes Israel."
"I cannot tolerate this hostility without them paying an 'immediate' price."
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This video is Netanyahu's April 2026 prerecorded statement announcing Spain's exclusion from a Gaza coordination center, not a live broadcast; the caption paraphrases his remarks.

Replying to @IDF
I was a combat soldier in an elite IDF unit. I served in the West Bank and witnessed firsthand how settlers could do whatever they wanted with impunity.
Today I’m the Executive Director of ״Breaking the Silence״ an organization that has collected thousands of testimonies from Israeli soldiers over the past two decades.
And I can say with certainty that this statement by IDF spokesperson is a lie. The IDF is not trying to stop Jewish terrorism in the occupied territories. In fact, it protects Jewish terrorists and arms them with US-made M16 rifles.
If the IDF genuinely wanted to stop Jewish terrorism, the Chief of Staff could simply order the 30,000 soldiers stationed in the West Bank to carry out arrests. It’s that simple.

Do you now see what I have been posting about this afternoon?
The riots in France are almost certainly backed by the hard right in France and personified by the harridan that is Marine Le Pen.
As soon as @elonmusk jumps in in support you know that to be the case.
This has all been orchestrated her adherents and agitators.
I wonder how much money Elon had given Marine? Not an insubstantial amount I might hazard a guess.
