ALT Cloudhead Games has spent 10 years working with Unity because it offered us deep VR support, a marketplace for prototyping & iteration, & a game engine with nearly unlimited potential. In that time, Unity made a commitment to us & our fellow developers to remain equitable, predictable, supportive, & fair. With proposed “per install” changes, how we budget & plan for upcoming projects becomes pure divination. We are proud to have built a team & a process that can tackle the existing unpredictability within VR game development; the thought of adding even more is deeply troubling. If we are to continue to use Unity to build the future of our studio, our existing & future games, & the VR industry as a whole, we must be able to trust fully in Unity's leadership. To that end: we join our fellow developers in calling upon Unity to fully & completely retract this confusing and problematic fee model. Do what is right for your developers of all sizes, for the players, & for this industry.
