“Donations by oil companies are transparent acts of reputation washing and any architect with the slightest pretence of social concern must refuse to become complicit.”
@ArchitectsFront and more pledge NOT to work with the @britishmuseum over BP ties! 🙌

Good morning from Island! An intelligent 100,000 sqft post-pandemic workplace for @hbdplaces and @GMPF_LGPS, currently under construction by the wonderful @bandkbuild team on John Dalton Street, Manchester, ft. the most beautiful precast panels by @techrete 🐝
Making a Stand by @StudioBark @PinskyMichael in Leeds City Square this year. The installation addresses wasteful supply chains, referencing the ancient Forest of Loidis that over time became Leeds as we know it. Studio Bark - one of the few truly un-hypocritical UK practices 🌿
Then we have Manchester - where we first split the atom, the word's first industrial city, first trade union movement, first women's rights movement, first computer, first bicycle pump - this is my favourite studio, sometimes it's so fun, it doesn't feel like work >>>
We're based at Ducie House, once home to 808 State, Mick Hucknall, and Home nightclub, now home to us and other cool people. We also did the fit-out (except for the hideous lobby skyline mural), with the branding and wayfinding heavily referencing Home's old flyers >>>
Working in London architecture involves being surrounded by swathes of middle class dullards, punctuated by a handful of people who think differently. Coming back from Stockholm was depressing on many levels - until I started working in the north. First up, Leeds goth city! 🦇 >>
Leeds is a beautiful mix of old and new, moneyed and regular, all mixed up together. No one's that far apart and this is reflected in practice. Colleagues are ace, clients/ consultants are friendly and without ego. And I get to go to Hayes at Kirkgate market for oysters at lunch!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only "activism" Heatherwick has been known for is getting his public school buddies to fund a bridge across the Thames that no one needed or wanted... People are always desperate for cash, but this sponsorship somewhat diminishes the entire award.
Some disruption at Ducie House today as everyone is tracking the airhead celebrities in town for the Chanel show 😄 it is however pathetic that the city council blocked public access to the northern quarter for a luxury corporation that provides zero civic contribution...
Chanel actually sent letters to residents on Thomas Street telling them not to use their balconies or turn lights on during their sad little fashion show. The ego of these losers slaving away for the world's 1% is incomprehensible >>>

Good morning from Island! An intelligent 100,000 sqft post-pandemic workplace for @hbdplaces and @GMPF_LGPS, designed by us and currently under construction by the wonderful @bandkbuild team on John Dalton Street, Manchester 🐝
Bromley Town Hall - 95% of the existing structure was retained, existing materials were salvaged and reused (from clocks and light fittings, to doors, windows and floors), and two beautiful buildings were taken off the Heritage at Risk register 💯 Click below for a building tour!
The funniest thing about Island (see previous post) - we had a Dutch artist on the graphics, so it turned out a lot sexier than we imagined! Metres high on the hoardings at John Dalton Street Manchester 😄

Island is really taking shape on John Dalton Street, Manchester! 🐝As this intelligent post-pandemic workplace for @hbdplaces and @GMPF_LGPS occupies a tight city centre site, offsite construction was ideal. Below is the visual mock up that we developed with @techrete >>>
Utterly stomach-churning read... There are many well-known predators in London architecture and I just hope that this encourages more women - especially young women - to seek justice. Well done @ArchitectsFront for all your great work with PPLAAF >>>
The bravery of the three women who worked tirelessly to get this piece published cannot be overstated.
It is long overdue to hold all powerful, abusive, and exploitative figures in architecture to account - including Adjaye and many more.

"The Line is not about homes, living and manifestly not about the environment, thus it’s not really about architecture. It is a multibillion petrodollar investment vehicle, an oily stain that taints all those that touch it too." Beautifully written by @alpa_depani >
