Rumor has it that Stanford will announce today that they’ll no longer participate in the USNWR medical school rankings (joining Harvard and Columbia). So who wins - and who loses - when the big names leave USNWR? Time to break it down, Winners & Losers™️ style. 🧵

This is your reminder that the #MCAT was specifically developed to keep "undesirable populations" from overwhelming medical school matriculant numbers. Such a test could "only be passed" by those who “should” become physicians, and would weed out the "undesirables."

Also, one day we need to talk about how the entire process from applying to med school to paying for licensure exams (and associated resources) to sub-I’s to applying for residency is not a process that is made for us first gen/underserved folk. My bank account is weeping.

Well. This seems perfectly fine. Thank goodness this exam isn’t a super high stakes exam, normally requiring a year of revision and sacrifice, that decides people’s futures. Oh. Wait. #MedTwitter #MedEd #coda22

Hey #premedtwitter and #sciencetwitter, what resources would be most helpful for those of you preparing for med school / grad school? Test prep advice, one on one mentorship, tutoring, mock interviews…? @EthicalStudents

Omg WHY is applying to med school SO EXPENSIVE?! Almost $500 to apply to 2 schools through a portal…three separate fees; one for the portal and one fee for each school. Crazy.

Anyone know enough about website management to help us move the EthicalStudents.org site from Wix to something cheaper? We have been keeping it up as an archive of sorts, but would rather it be on a cheaper host if possible!

Low-income applicants face numerous distinct challenges when applying to medical school. These barriers show up in EVERY part of the application. We need to rethink our medical school admissions process! by @BriChristophers, @trpender, and me thepermanentejournal.org/doi…

A (hopefully) bookmark-able reference! Attendings - would you mind sharing the following as a resource for students/trainees? - specialty - approximate location - academia/private/non-profit setting - salary (optional) - what a typical work week looks like for you Thanks 😊

Double-check with previous students and lab-members, do examine your future supervisor. It can change your experience completely!!!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: for my new incoming MD/PhD followers 🗣 your number 1 most important decision is to CHOOSE A GOOD MENTOR. Not because of the flashy science, not for the notoriety of a big name, Go. For. The. Good. Mentor. The other stuff is a bonus.

I believe all medical schools should have people from the local community on their admissions committees, especially when it sits in an area like North Philly. I am so proud to have been Chair of the Student Diversity Council and helped spearhead this initiative.
In selecting #TempleMed's Class of 2026, Katz School of Medicine for the first time included the perspectives of North Philadelphia community members, who interviewed each of the prospective #medstudents and had a say in the committee’s decisions. bit.ly/3xbV6Hd

Did you know how expensive medical school and the rest (step exam fees, application fees, extracurricular tool expenses, board certification exam fees) was going to cost you before you applied to med school? Comments welcome.
