As a Bi Woman I HATE KORRA
I am so sick and tired of people making excuses for how terrible The Legend of Korra was.
It is NOT only men and homophobes hating Korra.
It is ANYONE with a Braincell who hates Korra!!
I saw quite a few people defending Korra in my comments so lets talk about why Korra sucks.
1. Korra was very overpowered from the beginning of the show. She knew how to bend 3 of the elements damn near perfectly. There was no improvement she needed for those 3 elements she was overly cocky about her ability. The only elements she "struggled" with was air but even that was mastered within a 6 month period. Learning the elements is not a natural born talent of the avatars. It is something that is learned over a period of time typically alternating skills and learning them individually. Her training arch did not have to be as fast as Aangs was nor did it have to be as grand but seeing the training would have shown that she developed as a character.
2. She was very cocky and did not learn from her mistakes ever. This character was meant to represent women and as a woman I'm OFFENDED.
Being a strong powerful woman does not mean you have to be the strongest physical character, being a strong woman is knowing how to be strategic, cunning, and empathetic. Strength doesnt only equal brute strength and you devalued Korra as a character by making her a muscle head that disregards the safety of others. She was not an avatar that cared about the well being of people, she was selfish and focused on her pride and ego more than anything.
Her desperation for attention and validation made her one of the most HATED characters of all time. If she had saved people or risked her life to save others for defending the people who depended on her she would have been tolerable at the bare minimum. But she always expected people to worship her for simply existing. She was a spoiled brat who tried using brute force over and over which eventually shattered everything that the Avatar once was. She was UNWILLING to rely on her team or the people she cared about and never thought she was in the wrong.
3. She severed the avatar cycle. Honestly IDGAF about how people say "Oh it wasnt her fault."
HER FATHER AND TENZIN TRIED TO WARN HER!!!!
Korra of course believes she knows best because "Im a strong independent woman" and look what happened. She never relied on her team or the people she cared about and was focused on being the strongest character.
Even at that she kept getting beat up in like EVERY FIGHT. Like come on girl get up already. Not only did she open the portal once she did it twice even though she knew the first time she did it she lost the avatar cycle. She was SELFISH. The writing of this whole show was and still is terrible.
4. Korra is a the worst choice of LGBT representation. For the first point she had a huge crush on Mako at the beginning. She eventually helped break up Mako and Asami so she could date Mako. This would not have made Asami and Korra friends and for damn sure never lovers. Women are competitive when it comes to relationships, and nothing is worse than a woman's scorn when she knows some random chick ruined her relationship.
Then to make Mako and Korra a "Toxic" couple was so out of the blue!? Mako and Korra worked really well together but the writers wanted to give in to a fanship and decided to ruin their relationship. Then somehow Korra and Asami just decide "Yeah we are gay for each other now"?!?!
There was no build up to Korra and Asami, there were no hints, there was no form of chemistry there like ever!?!?! Its plain and simple the writers had a weird fetish of making very strong women gay. Asami and Korra would only ever be a toxic relationship because their relationship was founded on fighting over a man.
When Korra was with Mako she was learning to be gentle to think things through, but after the writers decided that wasnt the romance they wanted she went back to being selfish
‘Avatar’ creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko say much of the hate toward Korra stems from misogyny and homophobia, pointing out that fans blame her for losing the past lives but don’t hold Aang accountable for the Air Nomads’ extinction:
“They hold Korra to a different standard. I think there's a lot of misogyny and homophobia. The idea we hate Korra is not true."
