Today is my last day teaching. There's a lot of things I could say about the profession, the system, the direction or problems I see...

But what I'm choosing to reflect upon, are the nearly indescribable moments and innumerable instances of pure joy I had while witnessing a student connect with an idea...

Hearing the word, "Woah" quietly escape from them - there is nothing like it. Those were the moments. Those are the ones I will hold on to. What a privilege it was. On to the next part of my journey...

I need so many more high school and undergrad students to see this. They're hesitant to pursue science because of the math. Imagine a world where our prospective scientists knew that PhDs were intimidated too and that it was ok to feel that way.

#Denver will be one of the most expensive cities to live in by the end of 2022. Not surprising, 17% of our housing inventory has been purchased by investors who care about profits over people This is unsustainable, and why we support @NEWRDenver @javier_mabrey and @elisabethepps
The Pandemic Housing Boom saw investors pile into the U.S. housing market.

Just so everyone knows, I will be adhering to a June 31st through 61st calendar this year. I refuse to recognize that July has already arrived and am not prepared for the associated internal panic. Thank you.

If this was about babies, there would be universal healthcare. Free education. Free daycare. Southern states would be doing all they can to drop the Black maternal mortality rate. This is about power and control

MORITZ SEIDER IS THE NHL鈥橲 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR! #LGRW
It costs $75 to pay your graduate school tuition bill. It's not part of the tuition, it's just the cost of "servicing" your on-time payment. I also received two automatic responder emails from the graduate school this morning. I wonder how the computers spend their $75?

We are philosophically, ethically and morally lost. I don't even know why I'm tweeting. Maybe its out of desperation to be heard. I'm so sick.

Love this image of the GFP CRISPR KO experiments my students performed even more than the one I shared yesterday. Demonstrates that CRISPR-Cas is not 100% efficient. Control (left) and Experimental (Right). Interesting implications and discussion of limitations.

One of my students made these as we celebrated the seniors on their final day of class with breakfast. Red jello with frosting colonies in petri dishes. Coolest potluck item EVER!

Student designed and executed CRISPR knockout of GFP. Control (left) and experimental (right). Pretty neat reading about this for the first time just a handful of years ago and now my students are performing it in a high school lab.

Learning so much this year about how to help kids understand what and how much they've learned and how that differs from "final" assessments. Providing kids with closure while minimizing unnecessary stress is another fascinating branch of practice in this profession.

Have you ever had one of those dreams where, for some reason, you can't punch hard or run fast? That is the best way I can describe what teaching has felt like this year. I'm doing what I know I know how to do, but it just isn't working. One. More. Month.

I really love watching masters of their craft teach others. Cooking, music, boxing... topic doesn't matter. Nothing cooler than watching a true master break it down for others. A lot of humanity is embedded in the way people share their passions. We need (so much) more of that.

This was all made possible by @ATinyGreenCell sharing his science. @Etsy recently shut down his store and in-kind shut down more opportunities like these from happening. We need a scientifically literate population now more than ever.

Thank you @ATinyGreenCell for supporting our program through providing us with affordable access. @Etsy, I hope you will reconsider the closing of the Etsy shop that made all of this all possible.
