This young American is reporting from the riots in France. He is right in the middle of it.
Based on his interviews and the people around him, this looks like a Marxist revolution.
What a terrible flaw in our education systems. I'm sure many of the protesters are decent people but with absolutely no idea about the incomprehensible misery and murder committed by Marxist regimes in the 20th Century. What fools we all are not to learn the lessons of history.
I know France a little because I married a native.
What this guy says strikes me as true and could come to pass.
I'm an American bank guy who goes to rural France 4-5x/year. My academic background is European History.
The conservative forces of rural France have crushed urban liberalism many times since the Revolution (1848, 1871, 1959 and one could argue Vichy in 1940 as well). That's why they're on the 5th Republic. It's setting up for that again next year.
Background: France is run by highly educated mandarins for the benefit of the retiree class. There is little economic growth or job opportunity for the young because taxes and regulation are so high. President Macron's mild attempts to reverse this have been very unpopular with the retiree class.
The school funding protest is really about lack of opportunity post-graduation, which is valid. The Stalinist LFI and the essentially unemployed immigrant youth are exploiting the government's unwillingness to unleash its experienced and violent but not numerous riot police on the students.
Near-term, if the students stay home tonight, the police can start breaking heads with less fear of repercussions. If they don't, the govt is waiting for a spectacular outrage to justify it.
Long-term, the next Presidential election is in the spring. One should assume that National Front will win by a lot with dire consequences for the immigrant community.
Financially, France's social spending and still very capable (and conservative) military can not be maintained, yet the National Front wants to increase them. A financial crisis and EU exit can't be ruled out. Nor can a transition to a new form of government.
TLDR - we haven't yet seen the guys that Gerard Depardieu used to play in cop and detective movies. They about to come on to the stage.

This is the part of France I know well. This looks peaceful and I see no Palestinian flags. But I do see a French one.
We are getting propaganda from all sides.
I am not saying there are not many Marxists and violent Islamists in some--or many of these protests--but some appear peaceful too.
To these peaceful French people, I ask, "What do you want?"
Your country is out of money and already taxed to the max.
I would recommend a political system with much more democracy, but that never seems to be on anyone's agenda.
Anti-Ukraine posts are at a fever pitch. I suspect many if not most of these are Russian bots.
Meanwhile, does anyone understand what is happening on the streets of Paris and Milan?
Welcome to the age of narratives over news and propaganda.
When he says this, I hear Neville Chamberlin talking about Herr Hitler.
I am done with the GOP.
I was done when they did not care about the national debt.
There will be a reckoning on Election Day.
Vance: "I've never met Putin in person. I've spoken to him on the phone. He was calmer than you might expect. The American media has a stereotype of him. He's very deliberate and measured in his words.
I think, at his core, he's someone who cares about Russia's interests as he sees them. One reason he respects the President is that he recognizes the President cares about the interests of the American people."
Huh. I wonder if high diesel prices could have something to do with what is happening in the Middle East.
I know. Crazy talk.
🚨BREAKING: This new chart from @TheStudyofWar overlays Ukraine’s strikes on Russian refineries with the price of diesel fuel. There is NO CORRELATION between strikes on Russian refineries and spikes in the price of diesel here in the U.S. They are not driving up prices here.

Ukrainians are dying to expel an invader. They are standing strong.
Replying to @troopb87
Don't patronize the Ukrainian people. They overwhelmingly support continuing the war and sacrificing to kick the Russians out.
Maybe you don't understand patriotism and the desire to die for your country against an invader.

Great Spot. But the monetary regime will be coming to an end.
Autumn in the valley, winter on the mountain, and a princess who supposedly never checked out.
We took this photo of New Hampshire’s Mount Washington Hotel last week. The fall colors were still going strong below, and the mountain was already covered in snow. I love this time of year up here.
The hotel opened in 1902 after more than 250 Italian craftsmen spent two years building it. It had its own power plant and eleven miles of plumbing. Just imagine what it took to build a place like this in the White Mountains back then.
According to hotel lore, Princess Carolyn, the original owner’s widow, still visits Room 314. She’s said to appear at the foot of the bed brushing her hair. So there’s a little something to think about when you’re trying to fall asleep. (I’ve personally stayed in this room many times and have some stories…)
In 1944, representatives from 44 nations gathered here for the Bretton Woods Conference, laying the foundations for the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. A pretty remarkable piece of world history tucked away in the New Hampshire mountains.
And Mount Washington’s summit has recorded snow in every month of the year, including July, along with a 231-mph wind gust in 1934. Winter runs on its own schedule up there.
It really is one of New England’s most wonderful hotels. Hard to blame the princess for wanting to stay.

Normal citizens must take back their governments from professional politicians.
We have no choice if we want to live in a truly representative democracy.
Back in the 1990s, I was Resident Scholar at US Term Limits.
I have spent my whole life working to fix our broken political system.
Below is a link to the first of 9 essays on how we might replace professional politicians with very many normal citizens, who can serve from home in small community-sized political districts, and keep their day jobs.
Think of it as crowd-sourced representative democracy.
Imagine true government "Of the People," without professional politicians.

👀 Water you looking at? Everglades restoration in action! 💦
💧 Crystal clear water is flowing as part of the Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands Project. This major Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) Project is complete and already improving water quality in this area of Miami-Dade County.
💪 Watch the water as it flows from the C-1 Canal into a newly constructed pump station and a series of conveyance and distribution features to slowly rehydrate coastal wetlands instead of harmfully discharging it directly into Biscayne Bay.
🏅 Biscayne Bay is an iconic waterbody of enormous significance for millions of Floridians and this project greatly improves the health of this environmental treasure.

America cannot side with aggressors.
Zelensky responds to the news of a U.S.-Russia diesel agreement:
“Peace never comes through weakness.
Today, representatives of the U.S. Congress were in Kyiv – a bipartisan delegation – and I am grateful to them for visiting Ukraine at such a difficult time. They asked: what is needed to end the war? The answer must be strong. There must be sanctions under the Lindsey Graham bill, there must be support for Ukraine in protecting lives, and there must be pressure on Russia for its war. And today, there was a conversation between the leaders of America and Russia. A conversation that leads to something different.
Recently, there was a European decision to lift sanctions on Russian oligarchs. Since then, Russian strikes and the torment of people have only increased. This past week alone, there was a brutal Russian missile strike on a residential building in Pryluky, aerial bombs were dropped on Kramatorsk – on ordinary city buses – and there have been constant attacks on Kyiv’s energy infrastructure and on the life-sustaining infrastructure in Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, and our other cities. Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds wounded.
The Russians are compensating for their inability to achieve their objectives on the battlefield with this kind of terror. This year, Russia is weaker on the battlefield than at any other point in the war. That is why Putin is relying on terror. That is why he is relying on attempts to strike backroom deals to secure some form of pressure relief for Russia, in order to buy more time and more opportunities for war.
Any easing of sanctions against Russia without a clear and lasting de-escalation agreement with Russia is an obvious weakness. It plays into Russia’s hands – allowing it to kill more, wage war for longer, have even less respect for America, and inflict even greater losses and damage on the world.
Ukraine is ready to take symmetrical de-escalatory steps, and the American team knows our position. Our strikes on Russian oil refineries and other oil facilities are a response to Russia’s years-long campaign of terror against Ukraine’s energy sector. Ukraine will not set Russian oil refineries on fire if Russia does not destroy our energy infrastructure. This is the kind of agreement we are proposing to America, and we believe the United States has enough power to achieve such a compromise.
Gifts to Putin will not bring peace or any benefit to the civilized world. Russia will “repay” the diesel with further terror and perfidy. Allowing Russia to sell petroleum products is an investment in a war that must be ended, not prolonged. What is needed is real de-escalation with Russia on a reciprocal basis.
We count on America’s fair support for our defense of life, for our defense of people in Ukraine – and on the United States having a correspondingly strong conversation with Russia. A strong one, not a weak one”
Thank You Mike Pence
President Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Russian fuel amidst Putin’s ongoing and brutal attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine makes no sense and is a betrayal of the legacy and leadership of the late Senator Lindsey Graham.
While Ukraine fights for its survival, Putin’s war machine continues to prosecute his terrorist war on civilian populations and innocent Ukrainians are dying every day.
Now, Instead of implementing the tough sanctions Lindsey Graham fought to his last breath to enact, President Trump has announced the United States is lifting sanctions on Russian energy, fueling the Putin’s war machine.
As I saw firsthand in Ukraine last month, Putin is losing this war. Ukraine has fought the Russian military to a standstill and reinvented warfare with drones taking the fight into the heart of Russia.
America should not be throwing a lifeline to Putin’s war machine. Now is the time to stand strong against Russian aggression as we did during the first Trump administration.
Putin doesn’t want peace. Putin wants Ukraine. I have no doubt that if Putin overruns Ukraine, it will only be a matter of time until Russia’s military crosses a border that our troops will have to deal with him.
America is the Leader of the Free World. For our National Security, for the security of our Allies in Europe including Ukraine, President Trump should rescind this deal immediately and return to the strong policies of our four years in the White House; impose harsh sanctions on any nation purchasing Russian energy and work with our allies to ensure Ukraine has the military support it needs to repel and defeat this Russian invasion once and for all. Slava Ukraini🇺🇸🇺🇦
