Your @HuntersvilleGOV town board - with Heather Smallwood leading the way - just voted to TAKE the property of long time Huntersville residents for a parking deck because they don't want to pay their asking price and didn't even bother with attempting to engage in good faith negotiations. They got a single appraisal. Every single board member (with the exception of Quarles who is absent from tonight's meeting) is now on record supporting the abusive tool of eminent domain to TAKE the private property of anyone in town for the flimsiest of reasons. They can pay $2M+ dollars to tear down a gas station, but they become fiscal conservatives all of a sudden when it comes to dealing with someone who isn't a friend of the town. And they couldn't even be bothered to vote on the record - they kept eminent domain on the consent agenda. Fuck all of them.

Agenda packet for tonight's @HuntersvilleGOV town board meeting is linked below from the town website. No pre-meeting, regular meeting starts at 6pm. 334-page agenda packet, 15 - FIFTEEN - items on the Consent Agenda. Just a reminder - an item should never be placed on consent if any board member has even one question about the item. FYI - since moving into the new Tajmatown Hall, sign ups to speak are now held in the Chamber, rather than the lobby. You have to be signed up to speak (for any reason) by 5:55 p.m. Of note: Still no vote on the agenda to censure Quarles for his efforts to silence the political speech of 5 Huntersville residents. You would be fully justified at this point in assuming their silence on this issue means the rest of the board supports the effort to keep residents in their place by threatening legal action against anyone who dares speak out against elected officials in Huntersville. Silence is complicity. - Don't like the political proclamations? Then don't elect partisans who care more about pushing their politics than actually governing the town. They don't even write these things - they just get handed something to read and do what they're told - it's why the mayor gets handed a proclamation last month stating HPD has 120 sworn officers and just mindlessly reads it off and not ONE member of the town staff or town board thought to correct this BLATANTLY OBVIOUS error. It's just all so tiresome. - Fifteen items on the consent agenda. FIFTEEN. See what I mean about just getting handed things and mindlessly voting the way you're told to vote. Item 9.L. for example. We're building a massive new parking deck on top of the brand new asphalt at the brand new town hall that JUST opened. That's on the consent agenda. And not a single board member has a single question about why we didn't already build a parking deck during construction or how much this is going to cost or where everyone is going to park during construction. Just so tiresome. - Item 11.B. - the town just spent how much time and effort rezoning the 106 Gilead parcel only to now buy it outright for $1.38M after the prior buyers backed out? Why? Who knows. Zero information as to "why" in the agenda packet. The voters don't care so why should town staff - they will just continue to do what they want with zero oversight. So, so tiresome. - Finally, Item 11.A. - Consider adopting the FY27 budget. I had a long post planned on the budget, but work got in the way recently. Not to mention what's the point when we have board members who don't even understand the difference between rate and valuation and have never run a business with a $96.5M operating budget but get to vote anyway. The rate is staying the same, but the trash fee is going up $100+ more a year. We're adding MORE positions to HPD even though we can't fill the roles we have - yes, we definitely need another Captain and two Lieutenants when we have understaffed patrol shifts - that'll definitely fix the hiring problems at HPD by adding another layer of command staff. Oh, and we're buying even more spy cameras no one ever voted for. Heavy reliance on fund balance transfers, huge jump in personnel and all the associated costs, $100+ fee hike, and a huge CIP of $375M over the next 5 years... I guess we all just better hope the revenue projections don't miss or we're all going to be looking at a huge tax increase in the near future. huntersvillenc.portal.civicc…

Agenda packet for tomorrow night's @HuntersvilleGOV town board meeting is linked below from the town website. 5:00 pre-meeting for discussion on the FY27 CIP list (capital improvements), regular meeting starts at 6pm. It's a 978-PAGE AGENDA PACKET that wasn't event released until mid-day Friday (a day later than normal) so good luck getting thru it all to provide feedback to your elected representatives before tomorrow night. 13 ITEMS on the Consent Agenda. Of note: What stands out the most in this expansive agenda is what's missing - nothing on this agenda to address little Eddie's attempt to abuse the legal process to silence the political speech of Huntersville citizens. The entire town board is aware that Quarles sent out a threatening letter from an attorney to 5 Huntersville residents dated April 1 demanding these residents "cease and desist" conduct directed at Quarles (and no - I wasn't one of the 5 unfortunately, Quarles is dumb but he ain't that dumb). What conduct? Political speech - aka, legitimate, constitutionally protected speech directed at a local elected official. The letter is arguably the dumbest thing I've ever read from an actual member of the bar (and that's saying a lot) and is completely frivolous and would likely result in sanctions against any attorney who actually attempted to file suit on the grounds outlined in the letter, but Quarles decided to send it anyways, and not a single town board member thought this egregious conduct was worthy of a censure vote. The town board is ultimately responsible for policing itself - voters only have a say every 2 years - it speaks volumes when fellow board members abdicate in their responsibility to hold each other accountable. What's the point in even taking an oath to hold office if you have zero intent in being bound by the oath? I'll have more on this later. Item 10.A. Consider approving a purchase agreement for the sale of portions of town-owned property (Parcel IDs 019-031-15 and 019-031-16) for "economic development." This town board is selling the former town hall for $1.44M to an LLC that just formed last month ostensibly for the purposes of being used for a restaurant (at least for 7 years until it can be flipped and sold to another developer for a high-rise residential condo). I guess the going rate for an old gas station to get torn down on a slightly smaller parcel with environmental mitigation is $2.3M, but the geniuses at town hall decided a perfectly good building on a larger parcel directly across the street with approx. 23 parking spaces (still insufficient for a restaurant) is almost a million less. Just another example of government math at work. And it'll get approved unanimously tonight. huntersvillenc.portal.civicc…

Good news Huntersville, he's already been released this morning so your Birkdale doordash deliveries won't be impacted today! @HuntersvillePD arrests 'em and @MeckSheriff, the magistrates, and @CharMeckDA just keeps letting 'em go.

Another day, another illegal vehicle in @HuntersvilleGOV. Broad daylight, zero concerns of being pulled by @HuntersvillePD. Even if they were pulled over @CharMeckDA would just dismiss the charges. Anarcho-tyranny in action.

Something for everyone in Huntersville to think about as you head into church this morning - RACISM. Our esteemed town commissioner, Edwin Quarles, continues to struggle with racists and racism as a commissioner. It's the hardest thing he's had to overcome, the most difficult situation he's faced as a commissioner. I'm officially calling on all the racists in this town to stop being racist immediately. You people know who you are. All you people pretending to criticize Commissioner Quarles for the things he says at the dais or the ideas he has or the votes he casts, enough, we all know you're just racist and are too afraid to come out and say that's the real reason you don't support Commissioner Quarles. I'm sharing the clip below to a wider audience since no one actually tunes into WSIC - I can't sit quietly by any longer and not do my part using this platform to bring attention to the plight of Commissioner Quarles. Racists are now on notice, we know who you are and you are not welcome in Huntersville. I mean we don't really know who you are since Commissioner Quarles failed to name any names, but you know who you are. youtube.com/live/jDnh8aqIsok…

The @HuntersvillePD chickens are coming home to roost in @birkdalevillage. Another weekend night of "shenanigans" as Capt. Smith so politely referred to the throngs of people loitering and stopping traffic in the middle of Birkdale. Hard to take a proactive approach to policing when you have to send out an email begging people to volunteer to work additional shifts on the weekends because the underlying retention problems have STILL not been addressed and we don't have enough bodies to actively patrol on a weekend night. Your Huntersville town board is too busy burying their heads in the sand at the Graylyn to actually try to fix the real problems at HPD. Who wants to come in and work OT when you've already worked a full week and just want one night off to recover? All it's going to take is one shooting (and I mean an actual shooting, not a negligent discharge of a weapon from the HPD office...) and Birkdale won't recover. Maybe some of the officers working in the comfort of HQ during the week can step up this weekend in response to Capt. Smith's email so we can avoid further escalation. If we don't see curfew enforcement, high visibility presence of uniformed patrols, and community engagement along with better monitoring of social media the new, new owners of Birkdale are going to be putting up another For Sale sign before summer. Maybe instead of monitoring the movement of law abiding citizens, HPD can actually use the hundreds of flock and traffic cameras around town to track down the troublemakers at Birkdale? I look forward to hearing some solutions at the dais on Tuesday night from the town board and chief. tiktok.com/@snacknscroll3/vi…

Agenda packet for tonight's @HuntersvilleGOV town board meeting is linked below from the town website. No pre-meeting, regular meeting starts at 6pm. 525-page agenda packet. 6 items on the Consent Agenda. Just a reminder - an item should never be placed on consent if any board member has even one question about the item. Of note: no reference to whether there will be snacks served so please plan accordingly. Item 8.D. Approve the amendment to the Public Comment and Public Hearing Policy. Note this item is on the consent agenda. That means the entire board approved it being there when the draft agenda was circulated (of course, that's assuming they actually read the draft agenda packet). There are no discussion on consent agenda items, they are approved with one vote. By being on the consent agenda this is proof not one single board member is opposed to this change to the public comment policy. Item 8.F. Call a public hearing for January 6, 2026 on designating town-owned property (Parcel Ids 019-031-15 and 019-031-16) as being held for resale for economic development. The new town board is getting right to work selling off the old town hall. Stack and pack 4-story apartments to match the height of the new tajmatownhall here we come! Item 10.F. Consider decision on Petition R24-15, a request by Station South LLC, to rezone +/- 21.29 acres located on Old Statesville Road from Corporate Business - Conditional District to Transit Oriented Development - Residential - Conditional District for a mixed-use development. ~350 more residential units at the corner of 73/115 here we come! All because of a red line that ain't never coming. huntersvillenc.portal.civicc…

Agenda packet for tomorrow night's @HuntersvilleGOV town board meeting is linked below from the Huntersville town website. No pre-meeting. Regular meeting starts at 6pm. 371-page agenda packet. 7 items on the Consent Agenda. Just a reminder - an item should never be placed on consent if any board member has even one question about the item. This meeting appears to be BYOLR (bring your own light refreshments). No reference to food being served at this meeting so please plan accordingly. Of note: this will be the final board meeting before the newly elected board takes over in December. - Item 8.C. Approve CRTPO Package submittal and CIP amendment for the Ervin Cook Rd Extension & roundabout, along with the Extension of South Birkdale Commons Parkway project. The town is seeking 50% of the $6.4M cost of this project from CRTPO, and if the grant is awarded, is also pledging to commit another $8.2M in funds to complete the Birkdale Commons Pkwy. Roads are expensive people, roads are what moves people in this town. - Item 8.F. Approve the Grant Agreement for the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant. Another $300K for a "consulting" project - $240K to be paid by your federal tax dollars with $60K coming from an in-kind match (source of the in-kind isn't clear - I've requested clarification). 75 pages of rules and regulations and reporting requirements and red-tape tied to this grant $$, but I'm sure your town board members have read and understand every page. - Item 10.B. Consider appointing a Primary and Alternate member to the Mecklenburg Public Transportation Authority. Huntersville did our part in voting AGAINST the sales tax increase, but thanks to the rest of the county not doing likewise Huntersville will now be stuck in yet another authority totally controlled by Charlotte - the board will be appointing our ONE member tomorrow night (our ONE out of the 27-member board). Let's hope the town board does the right thing and at least appoints one of the qualified applicants and not just use this to make a political appointment. 1 vote out of 27 can't do much, but we need someone who will fight for the best interests of Huntersville at every single meeting and not just be another rubber stamp for whatever Charlotte. huntersvillenc.portal.civicc…

Were messages deleted before there provided to me in my public records request to the Huntersville Town Board? The missing message appears to have been from March 6. In what appears to be the messages provided by Commissioner Alisia Bergsman, at 9:44 a.m., Mayor Christy Clark asks Commissioner Nick Walsh to call Gatewood. Gatewood is a highly engaged Huntersville resident. At 11 a.m., Walsh responded “I will.” Commissioner Amanda Dumas then said in the text exchange, “That was my thought exactly Christy. Thanks.” The same exchange was provided from what appears to be Mayor Christy Clark’s phone. But her exchange shows an additional message between Walsh and Dumas. At 11:07 a.m., Clark says “Thanks. Please no one respond to her in writing unless you want it to be shared.” The next message in the exchange is from Dumas, who says “That was my thought exactly Christy. Thanks.” Commissioner Bergsman did not respond to a request for comment wsoctv.com/news/local/9-inve…
