Microsoft patched a Defender SmartScreen today. @TrendMicro @thezdi discovered it exploited in the wild and has had pre-disclosure protection in place (e.g. in TippingPoint IPS and endpoint behavioral detection) and has broader day-1 coverage now. trendmicro.com/en_us/researc…
Banning the @flipper_net is a knee-jerk reaction to the serious problem of car theft. Criminals can use a wide range of alternate tools with the same effect. The govt should be pushing car manufacturers (Toyota in particular) to urgently improve security.
Replying to @FP_Champagne
Criminals have been using sophisticated tools to steal cars. And Canadians are rightfully worried.
Today, I announced we are banning the importation, sale and use of consumer hacking devices, like flippers, used to commit these crimes.

Tom Hanks’s AI-faked likeness used in an ad. Attackers can use the same technique to fake audio/video verification for BEC attacks. Suspicious-looking payment request from the CEO? Don’t trust the phone number in the email, have a process! gizmodo.com/deep-fake-tom-ha…
While not much is known right now, it’s sobering to consider that if a presumably well-funded and skilled security team at MGM can get hit, cyber defenders sure do have a tough job.

This is good coverage of a story that got hyped over the last week. While it’s not an immediate threat, it does seem like Lockbit is coming to the Mac. Enterprises should proactively plan for effective EDR coverage.
MacOS is getting unwanted attention from the Lockbit ransomware group: a variant for Apple machines is in the early stages of development. bit.ly/3AeBR00 #MacOS
The story about scary USB charger cables ("juice jacking") doing the rounds today is hype. It's a theoretical attack that hasn't been seen in the wild, and if real, the chances of it being used against the average person is near-zero. Install your software updates instead. /1
But, these are generally older research projects that have resulted in patches to iOS and Android. Sure, it's good to be concerned if your phone asks "Trust this computer?" when you plug it in to what you think is power. (Say no!) But there are better things to worry about. /4
