Blue and white looks a little strange with our October holiday decorations, but how could we not change our roof lighting to blue and white Cougar colors tonight? What a game! Nail-biter to the end, but way to go #BYUCougars. And we're thrilled Pope Leo went home today, so our Catholic friends had an answered prayer too, even if we won the game. Well-played, #NotreDame.

BREAKING: The BYU School of Medicine has received preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), authorizing the school to recruit and admit students and launch its MD program. @byumedschool will welcome its first students in July 2027 and will begin accepting applications in the coming weeks following activation of its listing on the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). The BYU Board of Trustees has also approved plans for the school's future home, a 275,000-square-foot building on BYU's West Campus, just east of Intermountain Health's Utah Valley Hospital—the School of Medicine’s primary clinical affiliate. Construction is expected to begin in 2027.

A helpful summary! – at Lindon, UT
What Happened at the 196th Semiannual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Over four sessions this weekend, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spoke about everything from gambling and missionary work to temples, political differences and staying close to Jesus Christ. President Dallin H. Oaks spoke twice Sunday. In the morning, he addressed people dealing with questions and doubts and urged them to draw closer to Jesus Christ through faith, prayer and scripture study. He also pointed to the Book of Mormon as a witness of Christ and called on listeners to act on its teachings and share them. Saturday morning brought one of the conference’s more pointed subjects. President D. Todd Christofferson, Second Counselor in the First Presidency, warned about the spread of gambling, particularly through smartphones and among youth and young adults. “Gambling is morally wrong,” he said, urging members to put their time and money toward productive work and doing good instead. Temples and missionary work were also prominent. Elder Gerrit W. Gong noted that 21 temples will be dedicated and one rededicated during 2026 while emphasizing the ordinances and covenants associated with temple worship. Bishop Sean Douglas urged the rising generation to prioritize missionary service, while Elder Ulisses Soares spoke about fasting as an act of worship that can deepen faith and humility. Saturday afternoon focused on how Jesus Christ can help people through grief, weakness and uncertainty. Elder Ronald A. Rasband urged members not to give up on people who have stepped away from the covenant path. Elder Dale G. Renlund warned against letting immediate frustrations obscure an eternal perspective, while Elder Patrick Kearon used the “lift” that keeps a glider in the air as an image for the Savior’s power to sustain His followers. That emphasis carried into Sunday morning. President Henry B. Eyring spoke about helping the Savior comfort people in their trials. Elder Neil L. Andersen addressed the courage required to follow Christ, while Elder Quentin L. Cook said discipleship should show up in lives of integrity and virtue. Other speakers talked about service, covenants, belonging and becoming more like Jesus Christ. Politics came up Sunday afternoon, although not as a partisan message. President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, said political views, culture and personal interests are not what unite Church members. He said unity comes from love of God and neighbor and covenants with Jesus Christ. Elder Clark G. Gilbert made a related point: “Being a light opens more doors than any pointed argument ever will.” President Oaks returned at the end of the final session. After speaking about centering worship and learning on Jesus Christ, he invited people around the world to participate in next year’s Salt Lake Temple Celebration. The renovated temple will open to the public April 5, 2027, for the first time since 1893. The celebration runs through Oct. 1. The Church also launched “Dedicate,” a six-part video series following seven young adults from seven countries as they explore the Salt Lake Temple and questions of faith and purpose. Four more episodes are scheduled weekly through Nov. 1, with the final episode coming in spring 2027. A virtual tour of the temple is also planned. By the time Oaks closed conference, the subject he returned to was the one that had run through much of the weekend. Whatever the individual topic, speakers repeatedly brought their messages back to Jesus Christ, with Oaks ending by inviting the public to see the Salt Lake Temple when its doors open next spring.

When I read the scriptures, I’m impressed with how much of the Savior’s work has to do with bringing people peacefully together. The people during His earthly ministry were divided in a dozen different ways—culturally, politically, religiously. When you think about it, it wasn’t so different from our world today. But the Savior of the world, the Son of God, transcended worldly boundaries and divisions. He gathered people from different walks of life and asked them to serve together in positions of trust. He ministered to the poor and rich alike. And today He continues to invite all to come unto Him. In the Savior’s Church, it is not our political views, culture, or personal interests that unite us. It is our love for God and neighbor. It is our commitment to our covenants with Jesus Christ and to His restored gospel. We are “one in Christ” (Galatians 3:28). Jesus Christ has the power to change us, purify us, and unite us. The closer we come to Him, the closer we will come to each other—and the closer we will come to the unity He wants for us. I testify that the more united in Christ we are and the more we desire to build bridges instead of walls, the more our individual lives, our families, our communities, and our nations will experience God’s presence and supernal blessings. Wherever you are, I invite you to join the Christ-centered unity we are trying to build. It would be incomplete without you. Please, come and see, come and help, and come and belong. #GeneralConference

Jesus Christ has done everything necessary for you, for us, to have joy in this life and forever. Even when we make mistakes and feel discouraged or wonder if we will ever be good enough. There is good news—wonderful, hopeful news! Because God loves us, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who took upon Himself our sins so we can repent, be forgiven, and keep progressing. #GeneralConference

As your president, I pray for what our Heavenly Father wants for each of us—to be active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, proceeding forward on the covenant path into the eternities.

We need one another’s prayers. I feel the positive effect of your prayers. I am thankful, and I love you.

Personal indulgence: The #TabChoir almost killed me off by ending this morning's session with "Come Thou Fount." It was always such a joy to sing with them, but I am learning that I can still feel the feel the spirt almost as stongly listening.... – at Orem, UT

Elder Edward Dube: "We do not need to perfect ourselves to come to Christ. We come to Christ to be perfected." Don't wait until you're cleaned up to come to Him. Whatever you've hung on the gate of your heart, whether it's addiction, doubt, pride, or guilt, He wants you to come anyway. Come with prayer, trust, and a willing heart, and then invite one person to come with you. What sign have you hung on your own gate? What if "unworthy" was never His word for you? 🥹🙏 Who could you invite to come unto Christ this week? "Come as we are with a willing heart." 🫶🙏🦾 General Conference Jesus Christ LDS
