I saw Fellowship opening morning in a packed theater, guessing probably 90%+ of the audience read the books.
It wasn't planned (ofc), but there was a huge groan from the crowd when they entered Moria before the Watcher in the Water attacked, thinking that scene was just teased. And then a huge sigh of relief when they backtracked.
Hated? Nah. Nerding out and obsessively nitpicking on forums? That was the internet in 2001.

I'm tired of everyone asking, "Why do we need Greenland?"
We need it for that 5 army per turn bonus!

The cannabis industry of late has forgotten that compsssion is what ignited the legalization movement. Not corporate business as usual.
I grew up just north of San Francisco/South of Humboldt, and I remember this in real time.
Here’s the amazing story of Brownie Mary: skool.com/the-rogue-herbalis….
May her spirit live on in the advocacy of the remaining patient-centric cannabis advocates 🙏❤️🪴
This, and hey Google maps, how about you stay in a north/south configuration as default until I indicate otherwise. JFC.
You know what really pisses me off? When I’m zoomed all the way in on a road in Google Maps and it won’t show me the fucking road name, I have to scroll around until I find a label somewhere else. If I’m zoomed in on the road, just show me the name of the road @googlemaps
Someone close to me is going through something similiar.
All of these issues stem from not having the legal right to repair.
All of these issues will persist until we get it.
We must end drug control before drug control ends us.

You guys got purity rings, abstinence only, linkage to sex as a symbolic representation of self-worth, systematic limiting of basic sexual anatomy. That was done *for you and to you* *for a reason.*
Our repressed 6th grade health teacher clearly didn't want to teach sex ed and did so only using crude hand gestures
👌👈 = vaginal intercourse
👌👈 = oral sex
🤛👈 = anal sex
... which was hilarious... and sad.
But it's still kinda shocking that 10 years later that was 100% more than what 6th graders in the 2000s were taught.
For millennials growing up in public schools, sex ed was seen as a public health emergency that overrode the squeamishness of the Puritans.
So after exhaustive amounts of time spent on teaching about AIDS and every other STI, sex ed eventually, begrudgingly, got around to admitting that sex is pleasurable (but could also kill you, don't forget).
By 2002ish that was left out of the curriculum and replaced with billions of dollars funding Abstinance Only Sex Ed.
As in, millennials just a few years younger didn't have the condom on the banana demonstration in high school sex ed.

"why dont they make movies like this anymore" because akira kurosawa just killed that extra. hes dead. Akira Kurosawa killed over 12,000 people in his career as director. murder was outlawed in japan only in 1981
80s movies like this, Private Benjamin, etc, were made to whitewash the US Military after the genocide in Vietnam.
But hey, Bill Murray sure does engage in some wacky antics!
Sucks that the Screen Actors Guild abandoned him to die alone in poverty and his only friend was Ed Wood.

15 years ago, September 17 2011, over 200 protesters set up camp outside the Bank of America building in San Francisco's Financial District in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street. Occupy FDSF (soon renamed Occupy SF) was followed by camps in San Jose, Oakland, Berkeley, and beyond

San Francisco's new homelessness policy includes evicting encampments, restricting funds for service providers, and closing supportive housing sites. Unsurprisingly, the anti-homeless, billionaire-backed Cicero Institute is celebrating this approach. yahoo.com/news/us/articles/w…

💥It can take months or years to get permanent housing, and even then it may be located in a very dysfunctional, undignified area/situation (who wants their kids in that mess? Also, usually, once you leave, you have very little support, no money, and you are possibly sabotaged by angry family).
Back when I was trying to get away from a dysfunctional relationship/family in 1999, the housing wait-list was over a year long in the Seattle area. The dysfunction has only gotten worse, I'm sure.
Excerpt: "The first couple of weeks of my stay at Dorothy Day House, I still had optimism that the system could help me, an 18 year resident of Berkeley, disabled and illegally evicted (not to mention: sober and without a criminal record), get back on my feet and aid in finding me at least temporary housing within a month."
