18 years ago today, I lost my dad, Chinaka Fynecountry.
I was home with my mum recently, and we got talking about his early years in journalism. I knew my dad had started his career as an investigative crime reporter, but I don’t think I fully appreciated just how good he was at it.
Mum told me how, in those days, he was a constant visitor (arrested) at the then Force Headquarters, Kam Salem House, in Lagos.
Another history of the Daily Times lists him among the newspaper’s legendary “crack reporters” of that era. Dad eventually went on to do many other things in his career and life.
But today, 18 years after he left us, I wanted to remember this version of him.
The young investigative journalist.
The crime reporter who went after stories involving some of the most powerful people in the country.
The journalist who apparently wasn’t afraid of getting into trouble to pursue a story.
And long before I understood any of that,
My Dad.

On a call with a prospective client who also does standup comedy, he was cracking me up on the phone and his partner asked if they end up hiring with us, would the employee get on with his jokes. I told him we are the world’s happiest people 😊
