💗 A little reminder to care for you.
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re encouraging everyone to pay attention to their breast health, stay informed, know what’s normal for you, and seek medical advice when something doesn’t feel right.
And while you’re taking care of yourself, remind someone you love to do the same. 🎀 Because caring for our health is always worth it.

Before J-FLAG (now EFAF), there was a movement already laying the groundwork.
In the 1970s, the Gay Freedom Movement emerged as one of Jamaica’s early organized efforts to challenge stigma, discrimination and silence around LGBTQ+ lives. Among its early architects was Larry Chang, whose activism helped shape a movement that would continue evolving long after.
The work didn’t begin with EFAF, and it didn’t end there.
This LGBTQ+ History Month, we remember the people and movements that helped build the road we continue walking today.
The movement was always bigger than one moment.

THE FUTURE IS WORTH INVESTING IN. 🌈🎓
We’re proud to introduce our 2026 Scholarship Awardees - a group of bright young queer Jamaicans pursuing their education, growing their potential, and working toward the futures they envision for themselves.
This scholarship is more than financial support. It’s a reminder that our young people deserve to be seen, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive.
To our awardees, congratulations! We’re excited to celebrate this milestone with you and to see where your journeys take you.
A special thank you to Bloom Fund and everyone who helped make this year’s scholarship fund possible. Your support is helping turn opportunity into possibility for the next generation.
This is what community looks like. ❤️🏳️🌈

When they come for one of us, we all have a stake. 🏳️🌈
Our community is made up of different identities, experiences, and realities - but our rights are connected.
When one part of our community faces discrimination, exclusion, or attacks on their dignity, it reminds us why solidarity matters. We don’t have to share the same experience to stand together.
Stand up. Speak out. Show up for your people. ✊🏾🌈

A little reminder 🌈
You don’t have to have it all figured out. Protect your peace. Find your people. Rest when you need to. Celebrate your wins, big or small, and never dim yourself to make someone else comfortable. But in everything you do, make sure you are safe.
Take up space. Be loud about what matters. And don’t forget to enjoy your life along the way. 🏳️🌈✨

Who said resistance always has to look like a fight? 🌈✨
Sometimes, resistance looks like laughing freely, loving openly, creating boldly, resting when you need to, and celebrating the people who make you feel at home.
Queer joy is not a distraction from the work. It’s part of what we’re fighting for.
So take up space. Find your people. Protect your peace. And choose joy, loudly. 🏳️🌈

Same rights. Same dignity. No special treatment. 🏳️🌈
There’s nothing “special” about wanting to live, be safe, be treated with dignity, and exist without discrimination. Those are basic rights - and they shouldn’t depend on who you love, how you identify, or how you express yourself.
Equal rights aren’t special rights. They’re human rights.

The Caribbean LGBTQ+ rights landscape is changing, but isn’t one story.
Across the region, LGBTQ+ advocates and their legal allies have been challenging colonial-era laws that criminalize consensual same-sex intimacy, and those challenges have produced some major victories.
In 2022, courts in Antigua & Barbuda, Saint Kitts & Nevis and Barbados struck down laws criminalizing consensual same-sex intimacy, finding them unconstitutional. Dominica followed in 2024, when its High Court declared its criminalizing provisions unconstitutional. Then, in July 2025, Saint Lucia became another major success, with its High Court striking down laws criminalizing consensual same-sex intimacy.
But progress isn’t linear. Saint Vincent & the Grenadines upheld its criminalising law in 2024, while Trinidad & Tobago reversed its 2018 decriminalisation ruling in 2025.
And then there’s Jamaica.
While neighbouring Caribbean countries have been taking these laws to court, and winning, Jamaica continues to criminalize consensual same-sex relationships between adults. In its 2025 annual report, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights again identified Jamaica as one of only five countries in the Americas where such laws remain in force.
The Caribbean isn’t moving as one. But the legal landscape is changing.
The question for Jamaica is becoming harder to ignore - as the region moves toward equality, how long will we remain on the other side of that change?

Pride is more than a single event. It lives in our courage, our joy, our resistance and the community we continue to build together. 🏳️🌈
While we were unable to gather this year, we pause to honour the memories, the people and the moments that have carried us forward.
Our Pride celebrations have traditionally coincided with Jamaica’s Independence Day - a deliberate reminder that queer Jamaicans are part of this nation and deserve to celebrate openly and proudly.
This carousel is a look back at past Pride moments and a reminder of what we have created together.
Pride lives on. Always. 🇯🇲🏳️🌈

Glenroy Murray is stepping away from EFAF.
After ten years of working with Equality for All Foundation (EFAF) to advocate for the rights, wellbeing and livelihood of LGBTQ+ Jamaicans, Glenroy Murray (@GlenDivo ) has decided to begin a transition process that would see him fully step away from the organisation at the end of 2026. Our Executive Director remains proud of the work that the organisation has been able to do under his leadership - the re-establishment of the Rainbow House following the 2018 fire, the formal documentation of LGBTQ+ history in Jamaica and the undertaking of groundbreaking research that have focused on varied dimensions of the lives of LGBTQ+ people in Jamaica.
“When I started in June 2016, many in the community were still too afraid to claim their true selves publicly and the knowledge of rights and the impact of laws on our daily lives was limited. Now the community has transformed into a cultural powerhouse with influencers and community leaders claiming space boldly and unapologetically,” Glenroy shares as he reflects on the changes he’s been able to witness.
Glenroy’s transition phase will begin on July 1. During that period he will work part-time to support the organization’s mission.
Glenroy will remain committed to the work of queer liberation in Jamaica and commits to supporting the work of EFAF whenever and however he can. He is hoping that his departure creates space for radical ideas and transformative leadership that will take the community and Jamaica to unseen heights.
All public communication and representation on behalf of the organisation will be handled by Shadeana Mascull, Director of Programmes & Partnerships (@[email protected]) until such time as leadership arrangements are finalised.

#PRiDEJA is taking a pause.
As we look ahead, we have made the decision to pause both PRiDEJA 2026 and the PRiDEJA Mystery Box as we focus on strategic development and targeted community interventions.
Since 2015, PRiDEJA has been guided by a simple belief: that LGBTQ+ Jamaicans deserve opportunities to connect, celebrate, learn, and thrive in community. Over the last ten years, together, we have created spaces for visibility, joy, dialogue, advocacy, and belonging. Participation in our PrideShare facility over the last few years has been heartening as more community leaders and members have demonstrated they understand the value of Pride.
While our signature events will not take place in 2026, the values and principles on which PRiDEJA was founded remain unchanged. We remain committed to fostering community, supporting local leaders, strengthening affirming spaces, and creating opportunities for meaningful engagement. We are also hopeful that community uses this opportunity to consider their role in continuing the mission of PRiDEJA in the future.
Though we do not know when PRiDEJA will return in its traditional form, this pause is an opportunity to reflect, refocus, and reimagine what comes next.
The last decade has shown us the power of community. That work does not end here.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
The community remains.
The work continues.

From the Advocacy Desk 📝
Bullying continues to have a profound impact on LGBTQ+ youth in Jamaica. Equality for All Foundation’s 2024 Needs Assessment Survey found that nearly half of respondents reported experiencing bullying, with the majority of incidents occurring during high school - a critical stage of personal development.
In this month’s From the Advocacy Desk, Adrian McCarthy explores the realities behind these numbers and why stronger support, safer spaces, and meaningful intervention are needed for LGBTQ+ young people.
