A consultative workshop on SDG 14 – Life Below Water in the Lakshadweep was held on April 28, 2026, in collaboration with the Fisheries Department, Lakshadweep, and the @EnvDefFundIndia (EDIF).
The workshop brought together policymakers, experts, and stakeholders to deliberate on sustainable marine resource management in fragile island ecosystems. Key addresses highlighted the importance of responsible fisheries, marine conservation, science-based interventions, policy integration, and collaborative governance in strengthening climate resilience and achieving SDG 14 targets.
Technical sessions focused on sustainable fisheries practices, marine ecosystem conservation, and region-specific environmental challenges.
The discussions underscored the need for community participation, stronger institutional frameworks, and integrated, science-driven approaches to enhance marine sustainability and resilience in Lakshadweep.

The gap between global climate agendas and everyday local action is real. Solutions endure only when they reflect local risk perceptions, build trust over time and empower those closest to environmental change, writes Hisham Mundol

After 3️⃣ days of networking, brainstorming, and fireside chats @Mumbai_Climate, we believe that this has the potential to become the place 'where hope meets action'. 🤝
😊 And, as Hisham @mundol puts it "it was like a mad Indian wedding that despite its chaos fell into place".
#WATCH | Mumbai, Maharashtra: Hisham Mundol, Chief Advisor of Environmental Defence Fund (EDF), says, "Renewable energy is an essential part of India's growth story. One thing to keep in mind is that India has to grow. That part is not negotiable. The question is whether we can grow with the same level of emissions that North America, China, and Europe had while industrialising. The hard reality is that we can't, and we don't want to. We simply can't, because our poor health infrastructure and our food system wouldn't be able to absorb the shocks. We also don't want to, because half of our gas and 80% of petrol and diesel are imported. The more we can find domestic sources of energy, the better it is for our economic security, our energy security, our national security, and the environment..."
He adds, "I'm really excited that Mumbai Climate Week is happening. There are many climate weeks in many parts of the world, but this is one of the few that genuinely capture the voices of the Global South and India's perspectives... People are talking about the Indian context, Indian issues, and Indian solutions. I wish there were more in India and more in the Global South."
