Women in anglophone countries are called the word "women" which anglophones use to refer to people who generally fit the social criteria of "woman". This is why people get confused about what to call a person when they don't fit those criteria and why misgendering exists.

Words are just social constructs, because every language has different words. Words aren't biological, humans made them up to communicate. Otherwise every human would be using the same language.

Colonialism definitely wasn't necessary back then. It only was for Europe, which was on the periferie of Eurasia and needed nee recourses to trade with the east. China never started colonizing as it wasn't interesting for them. They already had enough resources to survive.

I should probably clarify for China that they now definitely do colonize. What they are doing in Africa right now is nothing more than neocolonialism. Ancient China did not colonise because they directly incorporated their conquered territories like any other empire did.

We can't change the past, but we can change the way we think about it and help those affected by it in a negative way. It being in the past is no excuse for having existed. Spain already got heavy criticism for the way they handled their own colonies in the 16th century.
