The Maths Curriculum Review is NOT advocating problem solving at the expense of core content. It is highlighting the increasing importance of both in today's world.
With the current debates on the Australian Curriculum review, it should be kept in mind that “21st C Thinking Skills” are essential in today’s world. And so is strong disciplinary knowledge. The two go hand-in-hand. One cannot reason about nothing.
I didn't realise how much I missed seeing my great work colleagues until we had our first face-to-face staff meeting in almost 12 months. Thanks, Dann, for always conducting enjoyable staff meetings, where we all feel actively involved.
My incredible photographer friend posts a beautiful nature photo each day. I love this one from today. It is a tiny tree frog sitting at the base of this water lily bud.

Another aspect of 2021 is, if we split the number and add up its digits or even add up its digits, this is what we get:
2+0+2+1= 5 (Prime)
2+021=23 (Prime)
20+21=41 (Prime)
202+1= 203 (Pseudo prime)

#quteducation With the recent very sad passing of Emeritus Professor Tom Cooper, I am reminded of how the advice we give our young scholars can impact their lives. I will never forget Tom's words to me after receiving my PhD: Never stop researching, Lyn.
Covid-19 has shown how much we rely on mathematical modelling...for better or for worse. Our maths curriculum needs to increase the focus on modelling, from the earliest grades. In fact we need a complete overhaul to bring maths education into current times.
It was reported in the newspaper that "Research from Cluey Learning showed 93 per cent of Queensland parents surveyed thought the nation’s schooling was poor or had room for improvement." I would like to see the survey. It is interesting when one checks out "Cluey Learning".
Our devastating bush fires are receiving a lot of coverage all over the world. Had an email form a dear colleague in Montana who is concerned, and she informed me that some of their forest firefighters are heading down to help. Isn't that wonderful!
My 6-year-old niece's burning ambition is to be a science teacher. She's mad keen on science and is trying to recruit her friends to be her science teacher assistants....
#stemined2018A big thank you to Professor Kar-Tin Lee and Kim Bowden for all their work in making the STEM conference a great success.
#stemined2018 The potential of STEM education to prepare students for disruptive thinking in dealing with new and unexpected problems is not being realised. We need to be more proactive here.
looking forward to welcoming all our national and international participants
