The Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), led by Ag. Registrar/CEO Eng. Grace Onyango, joined Government agencies and stakeholders in the Mazingira Highway Greening and Drainage Clean-Up exercise along the Eastern Bypass, ahead of Mazingira Day 2026.
Led by CS Roads and Transport Hon. Davis Chirchir and CS Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Dr. Deborah Barasa, the exercise saw 10,000 trees planted, supporting Kenya’s ambition to grow 15 billion trees and strengthen climate resilience.
As we mark Mazingira Day under the theme “Our Environment, Our Responsibility: Collective Action for Tree Growing and Environmental Stewardship,” let us go beyond planting trees to nurturing and protecting them for lasting impact.
Our environment, our responsibility!

As we celebrate Customer Service Week, The Engineers Board of Kenya extends our sincere appreciation to our registered engineers, consulting firms, public partners, and the communities we serve.
In engineering regulation, customer service goes far beyond routine administration—it is a fundamental commitment to public safety, infrastructure resilience, and national development. We view robust regulation not as an obstacle to progress, but as an essential service that ensures every structure, grid, and public utility is built on trust, integrity, and technical excellence.
To better support our engineering community, we have modernized our operations by transitioning core statutory services—including professional licensing, firm accreditations, project approvals, and CPD tracking—onto seamless digital portals.
#HappyCustomerServiceWeek #GoingTheExtraMile
By reducing processing timelines and providing clear, real-time status updates, we make regulatory compliance straightforward so professionals can focus their energies on delivering safe, innovative solutions to the country and beyond.
True regulatory excellence depends on active collaboration, transparent standards, and the tireless commitment of our technical and administrative personnel.
To our staff, thank you for balancing firm statutory oversight with responsive service; to our valued stakeholders, thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to elevate professional standards and build a safer, more resilient future for all.

Safety starts with compliance: Officials from the Kajiado County Government and the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) undertook a five-day compliance and enforcement exercise across construction sites in Kajiado North, Kajiado Central, and Kajiado East sub-counties.
The joint inspection team verified key compliance requirements, including the involvement of professional engineers, approval of structural designs and drawings, quality and safety management arrangements on construction sites, quality assurance plans, and relevant contract administration and management records.
As a periodic exercise, the inspections seek to strengthen adherence to the Engineers Act, 2011, engineering standards and regulatory requirements governing construction projects, in alignment with statutory requirements applicable to the built environment.
The teams also assessed the adequacy of professional oversight and the structural quality of developments under construction.
The exercise placed emphasis on the fact that construction is not just about putting up buildings. It is about protecting lives and investments through compliance with standards, professional oversight and quality engineering practice.
The Board continues to work with county governments and other stakeholders to strengthen compliance, enforce professional standards, and promote safe, quality and sustainable engineering practice.
To all our Customers, Stakeholders and The Public: Happy Customer Service Week!
This week, the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) celebrates our customers and stakeholders who inspire us to continuously improve how we serve.
We remain committed to responsive, accessible and professional service as we deliver on our mandate.
Enhancing Professionalism in Engineering.

Professional Engagements: The Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), led by Ag. Registrar/CEO, Eng. Grace Onyango, held a consultative meeting with the Kenya Law Reform Commission (KLRC), led by Chairperson, Ms. Christine Agimba, and Ag. Secretary/CEO, Mr. James Nombi.
The meeting focused on ways to support EBK in legislative and policy development, including the review and strengthening of the legal and regulatory framework governing the engineering profession.
The discussions explored potential areas of collaboration in the review of the legislation, regulatory policy development, compliance and enforcement and emerging issues affecting the engineering profession.
The two institutions agreed to work together to strengthen the legal and policy framework for effective regulation of the engineering profession and enhance public safety.

EBK and Kisumu County Strengthen Compliance: @TheEngineersBoard (EBK), in collaboration with officials from the Kisumu County Government, conducted joint compliance inspections on ongoing construction projects throughout Kisumu County.
This initiative aims to enhance compliance by ensuring that construction projects adhere to approved plans, structural standards, and the statutory requirements established by regulatory authorities, including the EBK, the National Construction Authority (NCA), and the County Planning departments.
The joint teams assessed construction quality, reviewing project documentation and signage, and engaging contractors, developers and site engineers on compliance requirements and professional responsibilities.
Beyond inspection and enforcement, the exercise plays a critical role in preventing structural failures, protecting investments and safeguarding public safety. It reinforces the importance of engaging registered and licensed professionals, implementing approved structural designs, maintaining appropriate site supervision and complying with regulatory requirements throughout the construction process.
Through such collaborative interventions, EBK and its partners continue to promote safe, compliant and quality construction practices, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable built environment.
Public Call to Action:
If you are planning or undertaking construction, ensure you engage registered and licensed professionals and obtain all required approvals before and throughout the construction process.
If you encounter suspected unprofessional or non-compliant engineering practice, report it to EBK through ebk.go.ke.

Setting Standards: Quality engineering education starts long before the first class.
The EBK Engineering Accreditation Committee is at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology for a two-day training of lecturers, university staff and top management. The training supports the move of the Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering programme to Tier I (Washington Accord-aligned) accreditation. At the centre of the training is Outcome-Based Education (OBE).
Here is why it matters:
• It starts with the end in mind. OBE first defines what a graduate engineer must be able to do, then designs every course, lab and assessment to get them there.
• It measures what students can demonstrate, not just what was taught.
• It builds in continuous improvement, so the programme gets better with every cohort.
• It aligns Kenyan programmes with the Washington Accord graduate attributes, the global benchmark for engineering education, as Kenya works towards Full Signatory status.
At this stage, the Board’s focus is on building the School’s own capacity, starting with the University’s leadership. Accreditation measures quality; capacity builds it.
