WTF @PatrickHampson You didn't tell me you did this.
When @robotaxi Denver?
Popcorn Palace is now submitting user data one letter at a time using cleverly constructed URL stacks.
The process works like this:
Submit a START request.
Submit individual LETTER requests to transmit the username through scripting.
Submit a CLOSE request to complete the transmission.
It's a technical workaround, but that doesn't change what it accomplishes: transmitting user data to an external endpoint.
@VRChat, how do you want to proceed here?
Is this a legitimate method you approve of for acquiring usernames from the platform?
I've been trying to find a way to obtain some form of unique player identifier within worlds for a long time, and it appears Popcorn Palace has figured out a way to accomplish exactly that.
From a technical standpoint, it's clever. And frankly, I'd love to have this functionality available to world creators.
But I have a hard time believing this is something VRChat actually approves of.
So I'd genuinely like clarification. Is this an acceptable implementation that other world creators can use, or is it circumventing a restriction that exists for a reason?
Here is what im finding.
According to VRChat's written rules:
Reading a player's display name using Udon: Allowed.
Displaying that name inside the world: Allowed.
Using the name for in-world gameplay: Allowed.
Transmitting the name to an external database through ordinary URL requests: Generally prohibited.
Transmitting the name one character at a time using predefined URLs: Still appears prohibited.
Transmitting player data through a specifically authorized mechanism: Depends on the authorization and the mechanism being used. (Example @furality using API)
You have the capacity to do incredibly amazing things. But it requires the mentality to believe that you can.
If I'm hard on you, it's because I want you to succeed. I see what you're capable of, but you must be strong enough to pursue it.
Incredible achievements are never easy. They demand sacrifice, discipline, and an extraordinary amount of effort.
And above all, you have to believe you're capable of achieving them.
Genuinely, I used to worry about what you thought. I respected your opinions, valued your perspective, and gave your words influence over me.
But somewhere along the way, that changed.
You became mean, aggressive, and willing to fight dirty. You went after things I worked hard to build.
And in doing so, you lost my respect. You lost your influence over me. You became a weed in a garden I spent years cultivating.
Eventually, I realized I wasn't the only one who could see it.
And I no longer felt obligated to keep making room for you.
Nobody is naturally good at accountability, managing people, or taking criticism. We all get defensive. We all have limits. We all make mistakes.
It takes conscious effort to listen without snapping back, recognize when we're in over our heads, and take responsibility before things fall apart.
Maturity isn't perfection. It's the willingness to do the work together, even when it's uncomfortable.
We all have room to grow.
I think I am going to rework radio streaming.
I tried a few open source options. They all died within a week running and they leak memory like mad.
Every single night we scrape the entire VRC space as much as we can for new adventurous spaces. And what we are finding is LOTS more games in VRC as of late.
Some are bad. Some are decent and some are insanely good.
I make a post.
Children read it.
Then run to Bluesky to present themselves as the authority on the very subject I just discussed.
This is the cycle.
Make your own content. Develop your own ideas.
It's getting really old watching how predictably you follow the seeds I plant.
This is why I have such an apprehension to people, Just shipping shit before its tested and ready.
@tweetsauce and INQFactory. Took my money roughly 1 year, 2 months, and 26 days ago.
And yet today its still not delivered. And I'm getting emails about how they are still in design phases.
We are at the peak of the EU Circuit. a Slight down tred but still above last weeks numbers.
Lets see if tonight's market grows the trend lines from last week.
