Power Pages Tip #394 - Passing Parameters to Web Templates - Engineered Code
Link: youtu.be/yOLVjR0m_Kk
Did you know you can pass parameters to a Web Template using the Liquid include tag? In this tip, I show how to create reusable Web Templates that display different content depending on the parameters you provide.

User: “Something isn't working on the Power Pages site.”
Me: “Interesting. Let me take a look.”
Also me, before actually investigating anything:
*clears the Power Pages cache* 😄
Because there's no point debugging a problem until you've confirmed it's still a problem after clearing the cache.
The unofficial first step of Power Pages troubleshooting.

Tip 393 - Escaping Values in FetchXML #PowerAppsPortals #PowerApps #MSDyn365Portals #MSDyn365

A Power Pages developer and a Dataverse developer walk into a debugging session... 🤝
Power Pages developer: “It must be something in Dataverse.”
Dataverse developer: “It must be something in Power Pages.”
Meanwhile, the bug is just sitting there waiting for someone to claim it. 😄
Which side gets blamed more often?

Power Pages Tip #392 - strip_html vs escape - Engineered Code
Link: youtu.be/MtNI5-0ShJ8
The escape and strip_html Liquid filters both prevent HTML from being rendered, but they produce very different results. In this tip, I show the difference and when you might use each one.

🎥 Missed our latest Portals Community Call? The recording is now available!
This month, we went under the hood of Power Pages to look at what actually happens when a page loads.
We covered how authentication, Liquid, FetchXML, table permissions, server-side processing, JavaScript, the Web API, caching, and more all fit together.
If you want a better mental model of what's happening behind the scenes in Power Pages, check out the recording:

"Power Pages is slow." 🚲
Sometimes it is.
But sometimes we've helped it get there. 😄
Too many FetchXML queries, unnecessary Web API calls, large JavaScript bundles, or complicated Liquid can all add up.
Before blaming the platform, it's worth looking at what we've built on top of it.
What's the biggest Power Pages performance issue you've run into?

Power Pages Tip #391 - Safely Displaying HTML - Engineered Code
Link: youtu.be/m5blEyg2Ldg
Sometimes you want to display HTML from a value in Power Pages, but don't want to blindly trust everything it contains. In this tip, I show how to use the html_safe_escape Liquid filter to allow HTML while removing potentially dangerous content.

When your favourite architecture becomes a requirement... 🔨
Power Pages supports building SPAs, and there are absolutely scenarios where that architecture makes sense.
But a form doesn't automatically need React.
Neither does a list. Or a dashboard. Or an entire site.
The architecture should follow the requirements—not the other way around.
What requirements make you reach for a SPA in Power Pages?

Power Pages Tip #390 - Don't Trust Your Dataverse Data - Engineered Code
Link: youtu.be/zEnH823LKzI
Just because a value is stored in Dataverse doesn't mean you know where it originally came from. In this tip, I look at why you shouldn't automatically treat Dataverse data as trusted when outputting it with Liquid in Power Pages.

Big news for anyone with an older Power Pages site still using the Standard Data Model!
Microsoft has announced that the Standard Data Model to Enhanced Data Model migration utility is now generally available.
Even more importantly, it now supports Dynamics 365 portal templates, opening up the migration path for many long-running Power Pages sites.
I've had a chance to play with the migration utility while it was in preview, and I've been happy with the results. It's great to see it reach GA and support even more existing sites.
With newer Power Pages features being built around the Enhanced Data Model, having a solid migration path for existing sites is increasingly important.
If you've been waiting to move an existing portal to the Enhanced Data Model, is this enough to get you to make the move?
