A Note on Pricing I don’t know how you feel about the price, but I’d still like to explain a little. The costs come from several areas: one-time upfront costs, production costs, shipping and storage, marketing, after-sales and returns, and financing. One-time upfront costs: Two years of design, prototyping, testing, and certification add up to a significant amount, and that needs to be amortized into the cost of each unit. Production costs: This includes the cost of custom components from about eight main suppliers, as well as assembly at our own factory. I have to say, each machine includes four filters and four fans, and that part alone is quite expensive. Compared with the 3Pro, this model also adds a plastic housing (plastic prices have risen by about 20% because of the war), a screen, and a PM2.5 sensor. We also upgraded the tube that houses the fan bearings to a CNC-machined copper tube, which helps reduce the chance of abnormal noise but also increases cost. Shipping and storage costs: We ship from China to warehouses in the US, Europe, and other places, and then pay inventory fees every day while the units sit in the warehouse. Shipping from the warehouse to the customer’s address costs about $18. In most of Europe, shipping is even more expensive. Marketing costs: Amazon takes 15% in fees. On our own website, the transaction fee is lower, only about 5%. That’s why ordering directly from our website helps me. We also plan to advertise on Amazon, which is expected to cost 20%. Promoting on social media also involves significant expenses. After-sales and return costs: We offer a 30-day free return policy. Return shipping, repackaging, and damage-related losses are also part of the cost. Financing costs: I took out a loan of about $500,000 for early development and preparing the first few batches, so there is interest on that capital. Compared with the 3Pro, this model’s price is only $20–25 higher, but the additional costs are more than $20–25. We hope this model will sell far better than the 3Pro, so we lowered our margin and are going for thin margins and high volume strategy. I bet you won't find an air purifier on the market for under $200 with this kind of capability. That makes the 5Pro a no-brainer. I hope everyone can have an affordable and good air purifier to help with your health.
AirFanta 5Pro Officially Launched: Two Years in the Making, Fully Evolved We are excited to announce the launch of our new air purifier, the AirFanta 5Pro, following two years of design and manufacturing. The 5Pro has been redesigned based on the structure of the 3Pro, with improvements across the board: it looks better and is easier to install. In terms of performance, the CADR remains outstanding. Measured in an AHAM-certified laboratory, the results are as follows: PM2.5: 393 CFM SMOKE: 379 CFM DUST: 408 CFM Pollen: >450 CFM We are also applying for AHAM and ENERGY STAR certification. In addition, the 5Pro now features a PM2.5 sensor and display, as well as an Auto mode. When disassembled, it can still fit into a 20-inch suitcase, making it easy to carry and store. Air purifiers are an important tool for protecting your respiratory health. That’s why it’s important to have some relevant knowledge. I’ve written another blog post, “Are H13 Air Purifier Filters Always Better?” I hope it helps. air-fanta.com/blogs/all/are-…

This is so interesting. I'll need to think carefully about how to make this happen. If I make a double-sized 4Lite with a feature that tracks a person's nose, it could ensure the nose stays within the clean air zone when placed on a desktop. I'd also add a distance sensor and an indicator light—when the distance exceeds the effective range, it turns red; otherwise, it turns green. This would be an extremely powerful air purifier.

The concept of HEPA filters is deeply ingrained. However, before EN 1822:2008 took effect in May 2010, HEPA started at H10. In other words, what are now E10, E11, and E12 were classified as HEPA before May 2010, but they are no longer considered HEPA today. That said, this does not affect the actual performance of E10, E11, and E12. It is only in marketing that E-level filters tend to feel inferior to HEPA. But as an engineer, I have to say: for residential air purifiers, the best filters are actually E-level.
H13 filters are typically used in laminar-flow air purification equipment—more precisely, laminar-flow supply devices such as FFUs and laminar-flow hoods. Such equipment does not rely on recirculating filtration; instead, it delivers a single pass of extremely clean air to create a localized clean zone. It is mainly used in cleanrooms, hospital operating rooms, pharmaceutical production lines, and biosafety laboratories. For residential air purifiers that use recirculating filtration, H13 filters are unsuitable because their high resistance actually reduces CADR. Unfortunately, after more than a decade of commercial marketing, the idea that “the higher the filter rating, the better” has become deeply ingrained in consumers’ minds. Through repeated testing, I have found that EPA11–12 filters can provide the highest CADR in most air purifiers—though this also depends to some extent on the fan’s airflow-versus-resistance curve.

Exactly.
We started cleaning our water and waterborne disease (e.g. cholera, typhoid) basically disappeared from the West. We can do the same thing for air.

You don't need to worry about that. The grade of filter is not important. Only the CADR number decides how effective it is.
The filter in my bedroom that I bought with my own money I didn’t have is not a true HEPA filter. Im fucking devastated

Today I asked someone who knows the inside story, and the situation is roughly this: When testing filtration efficiency, it is not just the efficiency of the filter paper/filter media itself that is measured, but the single-pass efficiency of the entire unit. The H13 requirement is 99.97%, so the sealing requirement between the filter and the housing is extremely high. Suppose the unit’s airflow is 400 CFM; then even a leakage of only 0.1 CFM is enough to make the unit’s single-pass filtration efficiency fail to meet the standard. That is because 0.1/400 = 0.025%, while H13 allows total penetration of only 0.03%, so this bypass almost uses up the entire margin. Although this leakage has a negligible effect on CADR, it has a large effect on single-pass filtration efficiency. The problem is that the filter and the housing are basically plastic against plastic, and achieving this level of sealing is inherently technically difficult, especially for mass-produced products. So they are stuck here. As for why they hype H13, the reason is simple: they want to use this metric to screen out manufacturers in the market whose sealing technology is not good enough. But ironically, they themselves cannot meet this sealing requirement either.

For years, air purifier companies have hyped H13 filters and fed consumers the wrong idea that the higher the filter grade, the better, so they could sell their mediocre air purifiers at a premium. But they knew full well that wasn’t true. That’s why what they used in their own products wasn’t H13-grade filters, but lower-grade filters that could provide higher CADR. Now they’ve been caught. Every lie ultimately comes back to hurt the liar.

That paper making the rounds today showing that SARS2 is found in basically all air samples (taken over 10 hours daily) in airports is so significant far beyond airports & even being airborne. There are so many pieces to this puzzle that people seem desperate to not put together.

This billionaire is also COVID-cautious . There’s a photo online of him taking dozens of children to court, with the children and nannies all wearing masks. According to him, any worker in his household who goes out has to quarantine for more than 7 days and take several COVID tests. When they go out, they need to wear N95 masks or PAPR. But he basically doesn’t communicate with our COVID-cautious group in China.

This is the city I live in. I have been living here for 12 year. Where the video was taken, there are some open-air western style restaurants. I come here to eat occasionally. The scenery is beautiful, and since it's outdoors, I don't have to worry about COVID.
Last winter, I was supposed to go back to Guangzhou. I told him I would take him with me. He was happy. He said he wanted to wander the streets with me, slip through the old alleys, and watch the city glow with ordinary human life. In the end, I didn’t go. The timing didn’t work. The flights didn’t work. I thought it was fine. There would be another winter. This year, I finally arranged the trip. Guangzhou is still there. The Pearl River will still light up at night. The streets will still be full of noise, warmth, and people going home. But he is no longer beside me. I once promised I would take him there. I never got to keep that promise. Maybe some promises are not broken. Maybe we simply believed time would always give us another chance to fulfill them. My love, I am still going back. Only this time, I will have to see the city for both of us.
