So, if we’re gonna celebrate the ABA all season long, we’re also gonna include ABA stats in the NBA records. Right?! @NBAHistory @NBA @Pacers @spurs @BrooklynNets @nuggets @RebBrownell

This is the most brutal honesty you’ll ever hear from a Major League Baseball player. Cameron Maybin was drafted 10th overall, spent 15 years playing at the highest level, won a World Series and is well-respected around the game. Anyone who spends enough time around a major league clubhouse knows that what Cameron is saying is a very common sentiment around the league from those who play it and coach it! Many are afraid to say it because of obvious reasons, so take a moment and appreciate Cameron’s honesty. He is 1,000,000% spot on!
At some point, baseball has to get back to valuing ballplayers and not just numbers on a screen. Give me the Freddie Freemans, the Buster Poseys, Hunter Pences, Pablo Sandovals, Michael Youngs, Ian Kinslers of the world. Guys who just flat out know how to play the game. Everyone wants to talk launch angle and exit velo, but what happened to valuing a quality at bat?” The 9-pitch battle that might end in an out, but forces a pitcher to show everything he’s got. The guy who hits behind the runner, takes what’s given, or just refuses to give a pitcher an easy inning. Those at-bats might not look sexy in the box score, but they show up in the 7th, 8th, and 9th. Some of these dudes could absolutely leave the yard too. That’s the point. They weren’t one-dimensional. Somewhere along the way, we confused measurable tools with knowing how to win baseball games. I’m not against analytics or hitting the ball hard, but there is an art to winning that you can’t fully measure. We need more guys who know how to play baseball, not just hitters, not just athletes, ballplayers. And I promise you, those dudes never go out of style

For 33 years, McConnell has voted against family and medical leave for working Americans. Then he disappears from the Senate for 92 days and keeps collecting his full paycheck. Apparently, paid leave is only a problem when someone else gets it.

Love this from Colson Montgomery yesterday on the upcoming series vs. the Guardians: “This is meaningful baseball. These are playoff games. This is determining-your-season type of stuff. If you come out flat, your season could be over. We’re going to be juiced up for it.” #whitesox

The #STLCards went 23 months without having to put a starting pitcher on the IL with an arm injury. Then, within a matter of hours on Friday, they lost two starters to potentially serious arm injuries that could knock the club out of the playoff race. roundtable.io/sports/mlb/car…

The Phillies were 9-19 when Don Mattingly took over and they’re 59-39 since. Now there’s a report that Alex Cora could replace him unless Philly reaches the World Series. If that’s really the bar, I’m not sure what else Mattingly is supposed to do.

RHP Daniel Eagen, the headliner from Arizona in the Nootbaar deal, is the Dbacks No. 5 prospect according to MLB Pipeline. Does he have "stuff?" Yes. sure seems like it. Here's where he ranks, in percentile, in several important categories this season at Double A: -- 96th percentile, strikeout rate (29.1) -- 93rd percentile, swinging-strike rate -- 86th percentile, whiff-swing rate (32.5%) -- 88th percentile, chase rate (32%) -- 86th percentile, called+swinging strike rate (30.5) -- 60th percentile, walk rate (9.1%) The higher the percentile, the better the pitching performance in those categories. The scale is 1 to 100, so you want to see a lot of 90s and high 80s. #STLCards

When @BaseballAmerica listed new #STLCards OF prospect Alexander Frias as the 5th-best MLB prospect traded today, here's what was written: "Frias joined the Top 100 MLB rankings in early July. When 2026 MLB draftees were added, he temporarily slid off, but he is slated to rejoin the rankings on Wednesday. Frias has some of the best power potential in the minors, and his hit tool is much more advanced than most 18-year-old sluggers."
