The lies told about Ireland - Israeli edition
Since Ireland has voiced an opinion on Israeli actions in Gaza, certain commentators have sought to invent or inflate aspects of Irish history to diminish Ireland's voice.
Here are the common myths, and the reality:
'Ireland has an inflated history of antisemitism'
Ireland has more arguably had the lowest levels of antisemitism in Europe since its first Jewish arrivals in the 11th century, and following partial independence in 1922.
Zero expulsions. No pogroms. No exclusion from government/societal roles.
The Irish fought for Jewish rights in the 1800's, led by its inspirational leader Daniel O'Connell who said:
“Ireland has claims on your ancient race, as it is the only Christian country that I know of unsullied by any one act of persecution of the Jews."
Ireland enshrined Jewish right of practise in its 1937 Constitution, a unique action in an antisemitic age.
Ireland's Chief Rabbi's repeatedly held Ireland up as an example to the world regards antisemitism - some examples below.
(Note - of course some antisemitism existed - idiots are everywhere) (1)

@CiaraGlenville just wondered if you have anyone who takes blood in Galway for your testing if someone can't travel? Thank you
Oh no!!
They have just arrested Dr. #HussamAbuSafia, director of #KamalAdwanHospital!!!
After burning down his hospital and forcibly evacuating medical staff and patients, they arrested him for refusing to abandon his patients.
Please pray for him.

This image embodies the heroism of Dr. Hossam Abu Safia, Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, and the brave medical staff who endured for over a year, bearing the harshest conditions to provide humanitarian medical care to their people. An image that stands as a stain on the history of humanity.
We appeal to international and United Nations institutions for urgent intervention to protect patients and staff at Kamal Adwan Hospital.

Hi @Coolibar, longtime customer here. Used your Memorial Day sale, got a shipping notice, but DHL said it was never picked up. Got a refund, but items are still in stock. Feeling fooled. I would have liked the items replaced at sale price. Did you intend to honor the sale orders?

Respectfully Disagree. I’ll Vote No on Govt Care Amendment. It has been carefully worded to absolve state of legally binding commitment to Care. It gives Constitutional Expression to concept of Care as Exclusively Family ‘Duty’ - Same Govt voted against UNCRPD in Seanad last week

Sometimes a news article makes you cry with gratitude that the truth is being told. After 10 yrs of ‘Evidence-based medicine shows Graded Exercise cures M.E.!’ this ‘evidence’ is exposed as shaky at best, deliberately misleading at worst. Thanks, @BBCNews bbc.co.uk/news/health-434903…
