Appreciated this reflection on whether schools are genuinely inclusive for all students and their families
This is how narratives are made. New research says children who ‘are not school-ready’ are twice as likely to be persistently absent. The author says “School is where children develop & flourish, academically, emotionally, socially, and physically.” 🧵1/16 tinyurl.com/762kc6an

WCS CEO Annabelle Daniel OAM was quoted on @abcnews about the Law Enforcement Commission Report on police responses to #DFV in NSW, and parallels in some cases with the recent WA murders. Read here: abc.net.au/news/2024-06-06/n… #EndDV #Believevictimsurvivors

Many convos happening right now about what it takes to support people experiencing DFV and end violence for good. But what do people working in the sector think about what helps and what hinders? @Innovation_Unit asked & can now share what we learned: innovationunit.org/thoughts/…

The requirement to have left the household where violence is occurring is truly bonkers given current housing crisis. Victim survivors often need the payment IN ORDER to leave or make plans to get out. We fail so many women with these bureaucratic hoops
And you've rejected over half the people who've applied for this payment!!!! you cannot be serious, amanda

The payment is helpful but in some places in Aus, especially regional and rural, there is literally nowhere to go. No housing available, no room in refuges, no temporary accom, no services that have enough funding to practically help. Women are stuck and need holistic support
🚨some major outcomes from national cabinet on men's violence: - $5000 federal "leaving violence" payment to help people leave DV relationship - plan to ban deepfake pornography - "counter-influencing campaign" against violent and misogynistic content online (more)

I went to write a list of what we actually need but this stuff is so known by the DFV sector already, they have been asking for the same things for years. We have a National Plan! DFV is a systemic issue, not just a point-in-time ‘I don’t have money to leave’ issue

I think it leads us away from constructivist approaches to teaching and learning, reduces teacher & student agency, & constrains learning by focusing on one thing at a time. Richer learning environments enable students to learn at greater depth through well designed activities.

@Telstra in Tyalgum/Murwillumbah our tower has been down for 5 days now, many of us don’t even have SOS connection and didn’t get any warning about work happening. Last msg I got said work would be done by 8th. What’s going on? People’s businesses and health are at risk

A local woman experiencing DFV hasn’t been able to speak to a service helping her leave an abusive relationship, someone else had their payments cut off my centrelink but can’t phone them to sort it out, and elderly people can’t get through to their carers. What’s being done?

"What does he mean, there were no trees in the UK?" You pull up satellite imagery to reassure yourself that there are in fact trees in England. You pause, staring at the map. Why is it all a pale shade of farmland greenery? Where are all the trees?! Let's look...

Similar story in the UK. Timber for shipbuilding had begun to be tough to acquire

@FedExHelp I’m trying to ship boxes from UK to BDA but your platform won’t accept my HS code - which I’ve confirmed is correct with BDA customs & your own HS code tool! Your customer service rep said ‘we don’t have anything to do with HS codes’ - so no idea how to resolve this?!

This is the code you confirmed, which is also as per Ministry of Finance customs list. But your online booking platform tells me it’s invalid for the destination country - if you can let me know the issue please that would be great, thank you

Your annual reminder that most flowers you’ll find for Mother’s Day are imported and devitalised with glyphosate at their point of origin. We should celebrate the day in March like the UK, so many more Australian grown flowers would be in season then 🌹

If you're not in a position to lift people out of poverty, then how are you in a position to fund stage 3 tax cuts and increase defence spending? You made a choice to give welfare through tax cuts to high income earners, and made the choice to push people into deeper poverty.
