My first time going undercover, and it was well-worth it. Read below.
🧵What’s the biggest lie the surveillance industry tells? That they only sell to legal clients. That there are red lines. But what do these companies say when they think nobody is watching? We went undercover to find out

BIGGEST WIN FOR INDIA’S HEALTH REVOLUTION! 🇮🇳 Imagine picking up a Coca-Cola and seeing “HIGH SUGAR” clearly on the front. Imagine picking up Lays and seeing “HIGH FAT” clearly on the front. Imagine picking up Maggi and seeing “HIGH SALT” before you decide to buy them. Now, you don’t need to imagine because FSSAI has proposed warning labels on Indian packaged foods. Companies will be asked to put a “high sugar”, “high salt”, “high fat” sign in a big red font in the front. A massive thank you to all the doctors and public health experts who have fought for this reform, especially @Moveribfan and @dr_sivaranjani My message to food companies is very simple. Improve your products before warning labels expose them. HEALTH REVOLUTION IS HERE!!!

‘If all else fails, sue.’ This is an astounding new report. We know that big food companies deliberately engineer and market unhealthy products so that we eat too much of them, too often. And lots of you will have seen that this is why multiple lawsuits are beginning in the USA. But what you probably didn’t realise is that it isn’t just people who are harmed by unhealthy food who are using the law. The companies who make unhealthy food are doing it too. But on a MUCH bigger scale...🧵 theguardian.com/society/2026…

Latest investigation with @thinink, give it a read! Our food increasingly makes us sick. When governments protect us, they get sued by big food companies like Coke, Pepsi and others. It's a global epidemic. Here in Kenya, a 1/3 of adults are overweight, leading to diabetes etc.

On #Ebola, it's encouraging seeing local concerns of "Ebola business" treated seriously rather than dismissed as irrational fears. There was an *incredible* amount of mismanagement in the 2018 outbreak. Millions of dollars handed in cash, payments to armed groups etc. 1/3

I like to think I contributed to this change, as most of the press coverage was uncritical of the response. The WHO's comms team gave me the worst pushback ever. One research report was censored, editors called by "friends", personal attacks... liberation.fr/planete/2020/0… 2/3

Every year, bad diets kill millions of people and cost trillions of $. The world’s largest food companies say they want to be part of the solution. But behind closed doors, companies lobby governments to derail public health laws.

Given what was reported at the time, this represents a massive underestimate of casualty figures in Tanzania's elections last October. As the opposition Chadema says, "a government accused of carrying out violent abuses cannot investigate itself".
At least 518 people were killed in violence that broke out during Tanzania's elections last October, a government-appointed commission of inquiry said on Thursday, in the first official acknowledgment of the scale of the deadly unrest. reuters.com/world/africa/tan…

🛑New Investigation Alert We received a trove of documents created by a Russian influence operation last October. The company from which they leaked was dissolved the very next month. This weekend we are launching a series delving into them.  #Russia #InvestigativeJournalism
