employers can adopt @ucu’s proposals, halt the pensions cut, deal with unjust pay + conditions and avoid disruption for students
if not, students will be out there on the picket lines with striking staff wishing UUK + UCEA a very unhappy Valentine’s Day ❤️🔥

BREAKING: 68 universities will face up to 10 days of UK wide strikes starting in February
There is still time to prevent disruption, but employers need to drop their pension cuts & take long-overdue action on pay & conditions

Really great news that York are looking at using their workload model to tackle this. Here's something i wrote last week about the need to recognise this in university promotion criteria over the next few years linkedin.com/pulse/why-covid…

It is vitally important in the context of this article, showing how the 'work of living' still falls massively inequitably on women, while the expectations of some senior men will not even adapt to accommodate that, let alone work to change it.

Some employers are expecting staff to work from home; schools are gearing up to set up programmes of work for school children. This is not going to work in so many ways. Some new planning will be needed over the next few days.
We know how much stress 'ordinary' homework causes families. We shouldn't be adding more stress at this time. Much homework is now online. This won't work in households without access to internet or multiple screens. Parents should not be expected to become teachers.
