The new cyber strategy should make some waves. Bold tone; robust declaration that we will commit to winning in this domain.

Breaking: The White House has released President Trump's long-awaited national cyber strategy: whitehouse.gov/wp-content/up…
Yesterday, @EmilyHardingDC testified before the @HomelandGOP Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection about how the U.S. can strengthen its approach to offensive cyber operations as part of a broader national security framework.

Smart stuff from the brilliant Carrie Filipetti at @VandenbergCo !
🧵ICYMI: A few thoughts post press conference from our ED, Carrie Filipetti, former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Cuba and Venezuela in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs and the Deputy Special Representative for Venezuela at the U.S. Department of State.
A few things the President seemed to get right, and a few things on which I have serious disagreements. Most notably, the allusions to US control of Venezuela and the lack of understanding about MCM's remarkable base of support. If we want to keep America and Venezuela safe, supporting the democratic transition is the bets way.

Final note: Social media is full of garbage right now—fake videos, fake photos, bad takes. Stick to trusted sources like my colleague @RyanBergPhD, for what’s real.
3️⃣ Is the U.S. done—or not?
Sen. Mike Lee says Rubio claims ops are over. Donald Trump told Fox the U.S. will be “very much” involved going forward. Big difference. Will intervention continue? Will Trump try to shape what comes next?
2️⃣ Do the cartels realign?
Their relationship with Maduro was transactional. They don’t care who’s in charge—as long as business continues. Expect fast adaptation.
1️⃣ Who takes power?
The VP is next constitutionally, but the real power sits with the Defense and Interior ministers—and they’re not going anywhere. The opposition won the last election, but returning to rule will require serious military + popular backing.
The #Venezuela raid is over. Maduro is reportedly on a ship headed for jail—but this story is just getting started. Three things to watch next 🧵👇
China: mixed reactions. Beijing will like the emphasis on respecting sovereignty and preference for non-interference in other countries' business and hate the "get out of Latin America" message and the tougher deterrence posture. More analysis coming as the NDS lands!
Europe’s wake-up call. This NSS shows a cavernous gap between how Europe sees itself and how Trump sees Europe. The message: defend yourselves; pay your own way. The language about “losing European character” edges into dangerous territory. This is the section I hated the most.
Centered on the President. The document casts him as diplomat-in-chief and global dealmaker. A note of caution: overpersonalizing the wins means they may not last. Enduring legacies come from sustained action.
A big foreign-policy shift. This NSS tries to define a new “America First” doctrine—pragmatic, transactional, and stripped of the democracy agenda. Gives short-term gains, but potentially a lonelier, weaker future.

Intensive negotiations are ongoing this week on another Ukraine peace plan. While the Trump administration’s unorthodox, hard-hitting approach to negotiations have forced parties to the table before, it’s too early to know if this approach will work, notes CSIS's @EmilyHardingDC.

No. Just no. If this is an initial Russian offer in a long negotiation, ok. If it’s take it or leave it, leave it.
Bullies like Putin only respond to strength. This reported “deal” is just a signal that Russia (and China) can take what they want.

Greg had great advice ➡️ What lessons do you think the US should learn from Ukraine's resilience in the cyber domain?

“The United States has been losing a war it did not know it was fighting, and it has been losing for the last 20 years.”
