The ADL has once again accused a Nobel peace prize winner of antisemitism. Previous peace prize winners accused of antisemitism by the ADL: Jimmy Carter, Desmond Tutu, and Amnesty International. Weaponizing charges of antisemitism against human rights advocates, specifically against those who condemn Israel for violating Palestinian rights, undermines the fight against antisemitism.
In awarding the Peace Prize to Navi Pillay, the Nobel Committee rewards a record of legitimizing of demonizing Jews, Israelis and championing antizionism.
As chair of the UN Commission of Inquiry, Pillay drove the unsubstantiated "genocide" charge against Israel that has become a rallying cry for antisemites worldwide. She has previously accused Jews and Israel of having "ganged up" to distort the history of the Durban conference, defended a fellow COI commissioner's "Jewish lobby" remarks, and championed the Durban process that mainstreamed anti-Zionist antisemitism inside the UN.
Learning of this award in Nuremberg and using the moment to double down on the genocide claim is a betrayal of "never again." The Nobel Committee has handed its most prestigious honor to someone who has repeatedly given cover to antisemitic narratives. That is not peace. I’m trying to understand the political strategy here.
You’re putting out clips attacking the East Ramapo School District hoping to gain votes, but who exactly is this supposed to appeal to?
Most Democrats in Ramapo come from the Jewish community, and they do not vote strictly along party lines. They vote based on what is best for their community and according to the guidance of their local leadership. In this case, They are strongly supporting Mike Lawler.
On the other side, many of the people in Rockland who constantly attack East Ramapo and oppose every RLUIPA issue are mainly local Republicans.
Those voters are not going to support you.
So politically, this strategy makes no sense. The advisor who thought this clip would win votes seriously misread the voters of Ramapo and Rockland County.
