I went to the grocery store this afternoon. As I was walking in I heard a woman yell to me from her car. I walked over and found an elderly woman and her husband. She cracked her window open a bit more, and explained to me nearly in tears that they are afraid to go in the store.

I had my first theatre audition in an age recently. I focus on my own work now so it really felt like brushing the dust off an old book.
It was quite a big West End audition and the simple task of doing it reminded me why I have fallen so out of love with the industry.

This does not fill me with confidence. It also deeply undermines the craft, commitment and skill that goes into writing musicals. You shouldn't just plug in pop songs to a new musical especially one made by the RSC
GUY CHAMBERS, who co-wrote the music and lyrics of @TheRSC’s THE BOY IN THE DRESS with @robbiewilliams, says the score was written in two weeks in LA. (Two of the songs were already in the bag before they began, planned for Robbie’s last album but not used on it).

If you are writing a musical, please make the women more than decorative. Please. If you are writing a musical for young people to perform, double that sentiment & add two tablespoons of anti-decorativity. Surprise! Women have complex inner lives and do more than want men.
