Are we on the verge of an American technological golden age, or are we about to hit the brakes? The Trump administration is pushing for an AI-driven era of abundance and innovation, but progressive politicians are pushing to heavily regulate or completely ban advanced AI development. Stalling our tech progress could easily allow global competitors like China to pull ahead in the AI race. Could proposed data center moratoriums and superintelligence bans cost the U.S. its critical geopolitical edge? Full story here foxnews.com/opinion/far-left…

In 2018, 86 socialist candidates ran at the local, state, and federal levels, with about 40 percent winning. Two years later, in the 2020 general election, 266 socialist candidates ran, and nearly 90 percent won. In 2022, 132 socialists ran in the midterm elections, garnering another 90 percent win rate. Most recently, in the 2024 general election, 48 of 51 socialists were elected. This year, more than 200 socialists are running in the midterm elections. +++ @HeartlandInst's Chris Talgo has a bead on not the "rise" of the DSA but, more accurately, its takeover over the Democrat Party. The DSA Neo-Bolsheviks are doing the same long march through the party they used as a host as they did, under color of that party, through America's mediating institutions. Antonio Gramsci would be impressed. redstate.com/heartlandinstit…

“For decades, science fiction has trained us to imagine the worst-case scenarios that could result from super intelligence. These warnings are important, but we must also consider the other side of the equation: a bright and prosperous future dreamed by optimists,” writes Donald Kendal @EmergingIssuesX

Optimism is sorely missing in the general public discourse surrounding AI and the future of humanity. Most pop culture depictions of the future shown a dystopian vision. While these warnings are important, they have seemed to traumatized people to fear technological progress.
This is the future we shall bring into being

1/ I am not sure most people realize how extreme Bernie Sanders’ new AI proposal actually is. The “Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act” goes far beyond ordinary AI regulation. It would permanently ban the development of superintelligence in the U.S. That is just the start. 🧵

6/ There is also a huge practical problem. What exactly qualifies as “superintelligence”? What happens when a model becomes superhuman in 10 domains? Or 100? Legal ambiguity is a major issue when prison is on the table.

7/ China. The U.S. can ban its own researchers from crossing a technological threshold. It cannot guarantee China will do the same. If U.S. researchers are forced to constantly question if the next breakthrough could be illegal, that hesitation could carry enormous consequence
